That 20K rating on the V10 is on a chassis that is exactly the same as his 5.4.
Exactly the point I was trying to make in post #18. Same chassis, brakes, tires, suspension as a V-10, so why (except for the engine) is this suddenly a bad thing?
Wow this is a great thread! And just to add another comment out there, if all you need is the 5.4L and you don't tow, why not just get an f-150? I think what everyone means with 5.4 is that is shouldn't be in a f-250, it isent the 5.4 is a bad motor just bad combo with this type of truck. I drove my f-150 with a 5.4 and it pulled the hell out of things, but I would agree that a 5.4 in 250's = whats the point, just buy a f-150. But I would agree this would be a good myth busters episode!!
ok this was a completley stupid and idiotic post...no offense to you it just seems you typed before you actually listened to what you where typing...i haul counter tops and need the 8 ft bed...i think a 8 ft bed looks completley dumb on a 1/2 ton truck...i like the looks of the super duty, because after all isnt that a LARGE reason why we all like super duties. i had a f150 and it just seemed like i was driving a car compared to what my dad was driving...i like the look, size, i love dumping 100 bucks a week in gas and i dont tow anything...i think that if i would have bought a f150 super cab 8ft bed, i would have been extremely unsatisfied with the appearance. if i wanted JUST a work truck i would have bought either a f150 or a f250 8ft bed standard cab xl trim...im just trying to say that i when i bought the truck i sat back and said what do i want and what will i regret buying...i actually considered a 06 f150 8 ft bed and then said you know what, ill regret it because its just not enough truck for what i WANT (NOT NEED) and i considered diesel and then i said after the novilty wares off and i realize i will never use it, i would wish i had the lower payment...if i could do it over i would definatley get a v10, no questions asked but like i said is previous threads i was un educated about the gas mileage let alone v10 around here are impossible to find...dont try to change my mind and talk to me like you know everything because all that does is **** people like me off that actually really do know everything im just joking , its all in good fun
Look guys I'm just quoting what the manual states. Yes they are on the same chassie. Dont ask me why one is lesser than the other. The 5.4 does weight less so you would theorize that it could tow more. If you want to put more on your truck thats your option. I didnt write the manual so slack off a little. Some states will do the weights in an accident and others will not. If you are over the manual and you are in one of those states then you can be in for a rought time with the law. As for apples and oranges. You have to take in effect your GCW, GVWR ect when towing. You cannont just hook up and tow because you have a SD.... The pin weight applies to your GCW. If you truck has a max weight limit of 8800 then your truck and trailer (hitch weight or 5th wheel hitch weight) plays into that total so that is how you pin weight fits into the picture. Your GVWR is just that.....the total weight of your truck and trailer. TW is your tongue weight and this also applies if uyou are doing a bumper pull. Look at your hitch Class III/IV or V and see what it says. It will have the tongue weight listed without distrubition bars and with. Yes as mentioned your limits are posted on the sticker on the inside of either you driver door or the B Post Pillar. So were is this apples and oranges thing??? There are other factors that also need to be considered. See the link...
As for DRW it does add more stability and more total weight.
Jorlee as for you comments yes those are good question and a answer would be nice. The manual is printed to try to keep people within safety parameters. Relax and dont get all worked up about it...
i like the look, size, i love dumping 100 bucks a week in gas and i dont tow anything...
I only tow snowmobiles and a car 3-5 times a year total with mine. And my dad does most of the driving! People always give me ***** and say "You don't even use it for work!" I absolutely HATE when people give me crap about owning a truck. They think because it's a work vehicle to them that it should be a work vehicle to everybody, and that if you have a truck, it should be used for only for work. I hate that generalization. I just say "Don't be mad at me because you can't afford to upgrade from your smashed up little toilet car." But yeah man. I hear that 100%. I bought my truck because it has the looks, size, and power, like you said. Has absolutely nothing to do with shortcomings. People just can't accept that some individuals like trucks for daily drivers, rather than just for utility. I may not tow much, but I shouldn't have to justify owning my truck. My money's no different than anybody elses.

I don't like settling for anything either. When you're about to shell out $30K or more for a truck, or any vehicle for that matter, you shouldn't take whatever comes along. Sure, I could get by fine with a Ranger or a Dakota, but the Super Duty is what I WANTED. Need is irrelevant. If everybody were to buy a vehicle based on need alone, then there'd be an awful lot of car and small SUV owners in the country. They wouldn't be happy either!
