Drivers side died on Fri,scanned it with a 2500 snap-on it read IDM with a bunch of other codes.Started it Sunday to move it into the garage ldled fine like nothing happened, did some visual checks, fluids, fuses,GPR,gaskets, cps everything looks fine.Started it up drivers side dead again.Same scan came up again. If this sounds like the idm were;s the best place to get one other then dealership.Did read that the Joe Servo are pretty good but dont know how to get ahold of him.
Is it a P1316 Idm malfuncion DTC?
That is MOST LIKELY a loose connection on the wiring harness's under the valve covers.
I just went through that last week when I was doing some rocker arm and fuel injection retorque routine. I accidentally knocked one of the injector plugs off when I was reinstalling one of the VC's and it set that code with a solid engine miss. I didn't have it running long enough to set any P030x codes. The SES light would come on immediatly upon engine startup and the P1316 would be there.
It would have really thrown me for a loop had I not JUST HAD the VC's off a few minutes before and it ran perfect when I pulled it in. So I knew that something had gone wrong underneath the VC's.
#1 injector was the culprit.
Happy New Year Dan,
I've a question. Does the injector take a special socket to tighten them down?
I will be completing the same inspection and torque as you have done since I've never had the VC off since I purchased my early 99 7.3
Thanks
Jeff

8mm six point socket. 12 point will work just fine if you don't have a six.
Rocker pedastals are held down with 4 bolts, two in each end. 20 ft lb.
Injectors are held down with one bolt on the lower side. 120 inch lb. That translates into 15 ft lb. Most 3/8 torque wrenches only go down to 20 ft lb. and if you don't want to spend the cash for an in lb tq wrench then just be careful and try to get a feel for a little less than the 20 ft lb that your rocker arm pedastals take to make 20 ft lb.
They say they put everything back together right(just my luck)and he;s 90% sure it;s the idm.
So they had it apart before all this started?
And it was running fine beforehand?
And they are not thinking that something might have gone wrong inside?
Sorry for pressing it like this, but the way you have it worded, I think that they made a mistake there. It's VERY easy to knock that #1 plug off because the wiring harness is in the way when you reinstall the VC. I found that I had to lift up the harness to get the VC back in there without knocking the plug off AGAIN.
Thanks, now were is the best place to get a new one,and do you know anything about this Joe Servo.Guess he makes his own from what i;ve read.
