Installing a DP
I dont need a real detailed description on how it is installed but I was just wondering if someone could tell me briefly how the DP is installed. Im not actually installing one at this time, Im just looking at some different ideas. My main question is if it is just wired into the pcm or is it wired in else where?

If you bought one, there will be highly detailed instructions in it. Brief overview is to remove the key, put it in your pocket. Using a 10mm socket, remove the bolt from the engine bay side of the PCM connector, below the brake master cylinder. Go inside and remove two 7mm bolts holding the PCM to the metal bracket, they face you. Then wiggle the PCM out, be careful to not let it snap out and cut your knuckles up. Then take the 6 bolts out that hold the PCM together, 7/32". The PCM will come apart and there will be a black plug to remove, and a connector with silicone on it. Scrape off the silicone and then carefully clean both sides of it to get ALL of the silicone off of the contacts, some copper showing is fine. Then install the PCM half of the chip on, and then hook in the cable. Put the PCM back together and reinstall in the reverse order.

Well hears my thoughts, be honest. I still have another 30,000 miles on my ext warrenty. I dont want to void that b/c of my fear that the trans will go out and the exact time I dont have money, so anyways. I cant get a DP with out voiding my warrenty and i know the dealership can look in my pcm and see what parameters i have been runnings. So what I was thinking was if the PCM was easyenough to remove and the dp didnt wire into anything, that I could buy another PCM from a junkyard (so far $100 is the cheapest) and use that to run the DP, and then when I do take it in to the dealership I can intall the orig. PCM so they cant tell.
And since I wouldnt go to the dealership unless there is something serius wrong with my truck its not like Ill be taking it out every other week.
Go ahead and tell me if this is a stupid idea. Im just finding it really hard to wait all 36k of the warrenty until I can get the DP.

The dealer will know if the PCM has been switched, because there will not be any codes stored.
I've had a DP-Tuner well before my warranty was close to expiring. I've also had it in the shop several times for warranty work, which was never denied. Each time I told them it had a chip in it, and they didn't mind. First, I think honesty pays, and second, all problems that needed repair had nothing to do with the chip.

The only thing Im really worried about is the tranny. And I think they would try to connect the tranny going out to have a performance inhancing chip installed. Granted if my pw motor went bad, theres no connection between the two. I do see what your saying with the PCm storing the codes though. I didnt think about that.

It took me about 30 minutes to install it. I had already had the pcm out to read the numbers off of it for jody so it was easy to do it a second time. The instructions from dp-tuner are very good and easy to follow. Just remember to clean the pcm terminal good with the pad included with your chip.
