Arrow DP chip or Edge Evolution?

I have a 2001 7.3L f350 4x4, i put in a K+N intake in it and it also has a 4inch banks exhaust on it. The truck runs great and im looking to put a chip into it to maybe increase milage, and get more power. I heard that the six guns dont do very much for the 7.3's, and i also heard that the edge evolution was a pretty good tuner. I was just reading a post about the DP tuner, and this is the first time ive ever heard of it but it sounds really good. i was just wondering if anyone had any advice about the DP, and whats the best deal for the bargain. how hard is it to install and im just wondering exactly how the DP works. Any help would be great thanks, Baret

The DP is not hard to install, it is a custom chip made for your PCM (computer) which you will have to pull and install the chip into. It's by far the best bang for your buck and no off the shelf unit will compare to it's performance. You will have to get gauges (pyro, boost, trans temp) and a different intake. The 6637 mod is the best low cost option out there for increasing airflow to the turbo.

Dp tuner all the way. The DP is on a switch, you plug the chip into the PCM, and then run the switch somewhere where you can acess it. Its switch on the fly, so you dont have to stop and reprogram it like the edge evolution. ALso the DP has much more power. I had the edge evo, and the DP is MUCH better. The trans shifting is perfect, the power is nice.

Thanks, The K+N Cold air intake isnt compatible with the chip? I thought that would give you more power with a chip?, I already have boost gauge and exhaust temp as well. Is the dp just a install and forget kind of chip or is it changeable and updatable?

You can upgrade it later if you upgrade turbo or injectors go to big oil etc etc. You dont have to update or change anything unless you change something major with your truck, that would require a custom tune. the K&N filter has a bad rep for dusting turbos and motors so it would be a good idea to upgrade to the 6637 filter, or the new AFE tymar style setup(about twice the price of the 6637 but its reuseable/washable), and will filter much better than that kn filter. Your going to need an overboost annihilator also, since you will be boosting over 22psi and after that the PCM will defuel the motor. The overboost annihilator is available from ITPdiesel.com.

Yes.
You will find if you look through this forum(and just about any other 7.3 forum) that the DP Tuner is the tuner of choice. alot of us started out with "off the shelf" tuning, but have had to go back and spend more money to get what really works best. DP tuner. here is a link. www.DP-tuner.com

I would ditch the k & n intake. I had one on my old truck, and it wasn't worth anything. Also I have read on here that the oiled filters are not good for these trucks. Do the 6637 or another intake.

Good suggestion Jeff, the K&N filter has not been a favorite for the turbo diesel. The 6637 is a great deal for less than $40, the AIS & AFE work great also but cost more $. All three have proven there worth on Used Oil Analysis reports.

I know I'm one of the few on this site running a chip from Tony Wildman (www.totaldieselperformance.com) but his tunes are first class also. I have been running them for over 2 years and my truck runs great. He's got some great package deals on his new website.....

another vote for DP

also, i run the k&n (possibly not anymore with this new AFE reusable 6637) but as long as i keep it clean, things seem to be alright, although i have no UOA to back this up with silicone levels...

Look at most peoples SIG and you will see DP-TUNER in most. Heck most look the same with the mods.

I might be one of the newest Dp members , 2 join the team anyway, the service and tech help is second to none.... Dp is the top drawer ....i had an edge with att. it seems more like a funny joke than a performance enhancement I have twice as much fun in the 60t than i ever did in the top set of my edge .... I now have to say i almost feel sorry for the guy that bought my edge....
