How wide a rear end do I need for my 56 F100? I want to put a 9" Rear end under it and put some 15" Wheels and tires that will give me good ride and traction.
Direct swap for pickups '48 and newer is any 9" from 1/2 tons from 1957 thru '72. Depending on what it came from you might need to move spring perches or shock brackets, and may need to use caster shims to adjust pinion angle.
Drum face to drum face is 61 1/4" Housing stub to stub measures 57"
1971 - 1973 Mustang (came in 8" and 9" but easy to tell apart)
(9" at least has the 5 on 4 1/2 pattern)
1989 - 1996 or newer Explorer. (some of these have disc brakes as well,I can dig it out if you are actually interested, but the gear ratios available for it are better for overdrive trannies)
(pretty sure it's the 5 on 4 1/2 pattern)
Somebody in here is using a Mopar end
(not a Ford 9" obviously, but gives you the 5 on 4 1/2 pattern)
