A local 'yard is setting out two '60 F-Trucks! One is a 250, straight 6, 3spd and the other is a F-100 with no motor. I'm planning on grabbing a few things in the next day or two, any shopping lists? I'll send anything light for cost +2bucks and shipping, as long as it isn't too big.(like an engine, you can figure that out) Woohoo, time for a new back window!!
Hi,
This is very nice of you to offer! Are either of these trucks custom cabs?
I'm still frantically searching for a horn brush switch assembly (which are exclusive to only '59 and '60 custom cabs.
Kenny, I believe the one with no motor is a custom cab.(my '58 is, and it's missing the emblems on the door) Is that switch in the steering wheel or is that the chrome deal in the center of the wheel?. I'm unfamiliar with what you're looking for. Let me know, I'll be going down there on Tues.:-)
Hi Dave,
The horn brush switch protrudes from the center of the steering column, and is what makes contact to the back of the horn ring. You can see it by removing the horn ring.
It looks like a spring loaded brass pin, encased in a plastic housing that fits into the column. the horn wire is attached to the back of it, and it runs down through the column.
Thanks!
Kenny, if it's still there I'll grab it. I can't remeber how much of the interior was left in that truck, it had been cobbled pretty good. Paul, I'm almost positive the distributor will still be there. That truck was pretty complete and not even really srewed up like most. What is the engine code for that I-6? Just want to be sure it's right. I'll check back in the morning before I go and will let you guys know what I found, about 3pm, mst. I think the distributor is a $15 item and the horn brush should be pocket change!
If the F100 has the spare tire brace/bracket under the bed, I'd be interested in that and will compensate you for your time and hassles. If the the 250 has the bracket and it looks like it would fit on the F100, I'll take a chance if it is the only option.
Kenny and Greg, sorry no luck. The steering wheel was still there(and painted white) and so was the horn button. The buttond(also paintd, blue) was broken pretty good. There was nothing under it. The truck had a push-putton switch mounted to the dash:-( Paul, the engine code was a "j", so the motor was a 223.(truck was a '59) I've got the distributor and I'll get it boxed up tonight and out to you tommorrow. E-mail me at ambroberts@worldnet.att.net with your address. It was $22 plus s/h. I'll give you the details later. For what ever it's worth, the '59 had a pretty decent front clip. All the chrome was there except one of the F-250 emblems!
