Windshield Trim Removal...

I posted a thread in the Body forum about this, but have yet to receive a response.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...-question.html

I was just curious how to go about "properly" removing the windshield trim?

Thanks for any insight!

Windshield guys have a special tool. Still a PITA though...

I helped put a windshield in mine a year ago and we ended up replacing a couple clips as they sometimes don't like to hold after being taken off. I guess I don't know if there is an easy way. Maybe Ford made a better tool.

any auto parts store has the tool.

or go to a windshield place and pay them to take the pieces off.

Special tool, eh?

Sounds like a winner to me. Would be nice to be able to take it to the windshield shop... I'd have to haul 'er there now! lol.

With the tool, is there any special "technique" for using it in hopes of not bending or breaking the clips?

I might just be better off to prep it with it on the truck...

Thanks for the help, fellas

There is a special tool for this .Not really expensive .The trim has a total of 24 clips holding the trim on . The idea is to lay the tool flat on the windshield and slide it underneath the chrome trim. When you locate the clip you squeeze it with tool and that pulls the clip forward and you can lift the trim off in that spot. Process is the same tfor the remaining ones. I would protect the windshield from the tool with masking tape as not to scratch it .Be carefull, if you chip or nick the edges of the windshield this will be the starting point of cracks. I have mine apart and will post some pictures in my gallery later to day.I removed the windshield to clean up the rust on the flange. Pictures should help clarify the removal.

Ahh, I see now... Thanks, mississauga!

I'm just worried about bending some of the clips and having trouble getting the trim back on and making it look like it did before it came off.

Thanks for the pics... I look forward to seeing them!

Ok, I have posted the pictures of the tool and the clips in my gallery.. The clips are pretty sturdy and if in good shape you won't hurt them. If they are old and rusty its easy to replace them. The bottom trim is a little different.I more or less tugged them from the clip without the tool as the bottom is different from the sides and top.Tried to show this with the pictures.

I added one more picture to the gallery showing the bottom clip that is attatched to the truck. The trim goes back on by using the soft part of your hand to pop them into place. A little bit of lubricant on the clips will help. Put some tape on the edge of the body where the trim may touch to prevent damage to the paint during re installation.Good luck.
