Cliffs Notes:
Silverado
If style points mattered in this contest, the Chevrolet Silverado wouldn't have had a chance. Its interior is so '90s it might as well come upholstered in flannel, and the dashboard materials are comically cheap for a nearly $50,000 vehicle.
But this test wasn't about the touchy-feely stuff. It was about which truck makes a 30-foot trailer feel as light as a couple of Jet Skis, and in that respect, nothing could touch the Silverado.
Ford Super Duty
If the Ford F-350 Super Duty were a contestant in the World's Strongest Man competition, it would be the one with the coolest haircut, cleanest outfit and best interview skills. It would also be the one that finishes a close second after failing to lift a 400-pound boulder over its head.
You see, after hundreds of miles behind the wheel, most editors considered the F-350 the most refined, well-put-together truck in the test. It feels substantial and solid on the road, but it's not intimidating, thanks to its strong brakes and well-weighted steering. Yet when it came time to climb the Jacumba grade, the Ford lost its cool. It was slower, noisier and less refined than either of its competitors. And in this test, that's what mattered most.
Dodge
With its ridiculously wide fender flares, huge chrome grille, and a cab the size of a small condo, the Dodge Ram 3500 Mega Cab looks like a prop from a Mad Max movie.
Yet when it came down to deciding which truck is the baddest thing on six wheels, the Ram rarely topped the list. It wasn't the fastest up the grade or the quickest at the track. The acres of interior space were nice for those in the backseats, but if you're looking to pull a sizable fifth-wheel trailer, the Mega Cab's shorter bed won't work. These are minor shortcomings, but they piled up, and when we factored in its price, the Dodge dropped to last place

On edit: The review has its own section for the stereo, yet fails to go through the differences in axles
Not knocking the review by any means - but thier requirements don't really align with mine...
And added to that - the SD had to tow a further 3,700lbs (and the Chevy 2440lbs) more than the Dodge???
Another thing interesting about the review was that the Ford got the worst ranking for brake performance but in the actual test, the Ford stopped in the shortest distance.
Seriously, they add almost 4000lbs extra to the superduty and complain because it had some trouble making it up the mountain?? And it STILL beat the dodge. Maybe if they all towed the same amount of weight, or even they added weight to make the vehicles weigh the SAME amount it would be a little bit of a different outcome.
I don't know why they comment on seat comfort and things like that because it is subjective, each person will feel something different.
Anyway, reasonable review, but I don't agree with the weight system they used.
Well when you put those 3 trucks side by side its an easy choice on which one would one you would buy. Superduty. Is there any other HD truck on the market. Ford owns the HD market an maybe Edmonds needs to give GM a boost on there HDtrucks. They even copied Fords towing mirrors. They just dont look quite right on a Chevy but on a Ford they look great. Edmunds,Consumer reports I dont put much stock in what they say or dont say.
Heres a good question for you guys go to a lot where all three trucks are side by side. If you were buying a new truck at that moment my bet says way more people would choose the SD for there new truck. In that pic the Chevy looks wimpy next to the Dodge an Ford. The Ford being the biggest truck.
Sorry but the SD is the best HD truck on the road today bar none. Just my 2 cents.
I didn't catch the particulars on the trailer capacities- good find Fred! I still like the Chevy's powertrain- but the Ford is more truck. Shur makes you wonder about that almighty Cummins though.
Yeah, the chebby driveline definetly has the upperhand right now (instock form). Even though the 6speed is just another overdrive, Ford could use something like that to help with economny. I think the cummins is being severely limited by that 4 speed they have on it.
Its kind of funny that the dodge had the least amount of weight and it still came in last place though..
We'll see what happens nexte year with ULSD fuel.. should be interesting with new trucks from Ford and chebby, does dodge have any plans for a new truck?? I've heard rumors about a 6.7 cummins too.

Umh, Why not test the quad cab long bed instead, HELLO??????????
Although there are a lot of valid points here and the new Duramax without a doubt has the most torque and hp in the class, it is obvious these guys are used to reviewing Mazda Miatas and Honda Accords and not trucks. Why in the world would you configure the trucks differently and tow different amounts of weight? Stupid.

My guess is that they have an agenda. IMO all organizations have an agenda. That's why I simply stick with Fords and have no problems.
Its just their personal opinion, its doesn't mean everything they wrote is correct.
You're absolutely correct, but I do agree with SOME of the points they made. I came to some of the same conclusions myself when I tried all three trucks.

Nothing to wonder about the Cummins. Its clearly the 4-speed thats killing Dodge in the HD Auto segment. If they tested the rigs with manual trannies the Ram would have faired alot better. Dodge's new 6-speed auto can't get here soon enough!
About the new Cummins 6.7. It will make 325 hp, 610 lbs/ft of tourqe. I wouldn't be surprised to see those figures increase after the first year or so of production. With the bigger displacement, I'm assuming the 6.7 has lots of room to grow.
