I have a 1994 Explorer and when trying to engage 4 wheel drive nothing happens. My mechanic said to try a used shift control from the junkyard as all systems (module & transfer case) check OK so far. Is it possible the switch is bad ? Is there something else to try ?
Thanks for your input.
the module will click even if the motor does not turn, my bet, the shift motor on the T/C need some TLC.
After you fix the shift motor, go see your mechanic and teach him how to diagnose an EXPLODER.
The mechanic just put a new motor on it and said he tested all the circuits, but the electronic control switch tests ok but fails when the button is pushed.
I'm not electronics literate so am at a loss on what to look for or do.
What do you suggest that I could try.
Thanks for your help.
If you don't even hear any relays clicking its most likely the switch or the control module. If its the motor, you will still hear the relays clicking.
I'd have to ask my mechanic that one. He's the one who has the expertise, I just pay the bill but wish I knew more about this. Will follow up and let you know.
Thanks
