F150 stalls in reverse

I have a 1994 automatic F150 5.0 4x4 with dual tanks and I have been having trouble with reverse. Occasionally I will shift into reverse and the engine will start to putter and if I don't press the gas pedal it will stall out. Its almost like trying to drive a stick shift. It doenst do it every time but probably 60% of the time it will do that. I heard maybe it could be the transmission filter? Maybe idle air control? Any answers will be wonderful.

Low trans fluid is the most common cause of this.

Update: I cleaned iac valve which was very dirty, started her up and I can tell it runs smoother and doesn't stall in reverse anymore. Except when I shift to reverse it seems to kick into gear hard.. I don't know if this matters but what do y'all think?

I found that I am idling at 1500 rpms. That is why I am shifting hard. How do I tune that down?
