I have been having trouble recently with my truck. Hard shift points, bad idle and the engine shutting down when trying to shift into reverse or drive. Saw the thread about the vacuum modulator and thought That's it!! So, I did a little more research and read about vacuum. I'm a little embarrassed to say this, but when I installed the Holley, I did not install the vacuum going to the brake booster, transmission, heater control. Explains the hard shift and some of the bad idle. I took care of that issue today. Hard shift is gone and idle is OK. I am still having trouble with the truck stalling out when shift to drive or reverse. Any ideas?? Oh, I have double checked my vacuum and it's completely hooked up.
Agree with devino. That sounds like improper curb idle speed, mixture, or both. If the problem is sensitive to temperature, then consider the choke as well.

What is a vacuum and how does one hook it up? Vacuum is a physical concept by which select mechanical instruments operate. What do you mean? Are you saying all of the vacuum-based mechanisms are connected properly? What do you define as "properly"?

Thanks for the replies. What I defined as properly, is that I replaced all the vacuum lines one by one before I installed the Holley, with the exception of the booster line. But, I guess it wouldn't hurt again to check the lines one more time.
Did you also adjust the floats? Even if not new/refurbished you should at least double check them. Being too high or low can cause these kind of issues.
