hey guys i drive a 98 f250ld 2x4 and just yesterday out of no where pulling onto my street i noticed my idle when high sitting around 1400rpm and when i gave it a rev it got stuck higher(2300rpm) till i turned it off. i started the truck back up idled at 1400 and now stays there. unplugged the IAC and idles at 500rpm. im getting a new iac. but the bigger problem now is i put the truck into Drive and it wont shift out of first at all, how hard i try. i noticed if i put it in 2 then it shifts 1st to 2nd like a charm. tried going 2 to Drive and it just stays in second what controls the shifting in Drive?
The trans is total electric control from the computer when put into any forward gear position.
The IAC only controls air by pass below about 2000 rpm..
For example if you use a lot of throttle in acceleration the TPS position will keep the trans from upshifting until a certain RPM range is attained, so look at the TPS well.
Get your IAC and idle issues cleared and see how it acts.
It may even be a harness issue as both are in the same area.
If still a problem have it looked at for transmission codes and any others that may be set..
If no codes then there likely is an internal trans mechanical problem.
Until these get addressed it just a guess.
Good luck.
i unplugged the IAC and the truck idles in gear really low around 400rpm but stalls most of the time but ill check TPS tomorrow. could it be the solenoid? TCM? i can get it for 8.99 and a new IAC is 9.99. the tranny oil is pink and clean.
Don't replace parts until there is a proven need.
If the idle drops to 4 to 500 rpm the IAC is working. Leave it alone.
Get the codes reads so you have a possible starting point and not guess.
Good luck.
