There is some oil around a couple boots. Essp the one at the bottom of the Y-Pipe. I gotta make one of those caps and pressurize the system then?
That's a very likely place to leak. I would remove the 5 way intake pipe and clean it up.U should also check for surface irregularities/protrusions on the pipe and file them down if necessary. Then re-install and use hairspray to help seal
everything.Consideer doing the CCV mod too.
Nut
I have a hard time believing that a simple boost leak could cause that drastic a drop in fuel economy. Add to that you're best tank was 2-5 mpg below what you should be getting running around empty.....
Have you checked your exhaust backpressure valve? Maybe it's stuck partially closed. Also might want to recheck that new fuel filter. If it's already black and nasty it could point to a faulty injector(s). Might also want to take it to your mechanic and have a compression test done. Any abnormal oil consumption or dilution?
I will check the oil again. I have about 500miles on it. I checked it like 100 miles after and was still dead on. Fuel filter was recently changed before I changed it because it looked pretty clean.
Not sure on the exhaust backpressure thing. You might be onto something. I know when it's cold it really dogs until the backpressure thing opens. You can tell when it opens because it gets a bit louder up front? But even when it opens if I drive at part throttle I hear that wooshing noise? WHat the heck is that noise?
Ha, good luck getting anyone to run a compression test around here.
There's a couple of things you can do with the EBPV. First is to find the plug at the base of the turbo mount pedestal and disconnect it. That will default it to the open position. Then you can disconnect the actuator rod from the valve itself and make sure that isn't physically stuck due to a carbon build up.
Diesel Innovations has a gauge with the appropriate glow plug hole threaded fitting available on their website. You can do your own compression test if you want to go that route.
Well part of my crappy milage no doubt is related to the fact I only like 2.5miles to/from work. But when I do the highway miles its in a 20mile interval trip. So the thing is never really getting warmed up to efficiency unless I'm driving on the highway. Still... these are all things I should check. I wouldnt mind 9mpg if it had more power.
I am only 2 miles from work, and still get 14-15 depending on how much I drive elsewhere. Do you have anyone that can do injector testing in your area?
Kwik...side bar...whats the cost of new injectors ??
Depends on what you want.
I bought mine from http://www.beansdieselperformance.com/
The ones that I bought are not listed on the website. I wanted stockers with NEW not rebuilt nozzles and they quoted me something a bit shy of $1100.00 plus core charge. I have 21 days to get the old ones back to them once I receive the new ones.
I was getting milage like that and my mechanic tightened up every hose clamp on the turbo and I got about 1 MPG per clamp. I also needed a map sensor. The mechanic did not just run the computer he actually was reading voltages and levels of a bunch of stuff.
