i have a volant complete kit.paid $ 450 or so that i'll sell for half price.used for 2-3 months.it seems to work in the mid to upper power range but i'm never in that range much.
I removed as well after using it for about an month. Reason: I was getting really unsure about the air cleaning performance after reading this site plus other related sites on the web.
I don't buy a truck just for couple of years -- the engine has to last.
I'd save my money for programmer...
I've done numerous intake mods to my 5.4L. I've run the truck with the fender piece removed off of the stock intake, tried the DVM mode (drain pipe extension into the fender), even an aftermarket Airaid MIT. Recently I purchased and installed the Volant. I've got to say that there really is some additional performance gain with the Volant. Maybe more than anything, it's the performance sound that I get now in WOT. I've ran a tuner, along with a catback exhaust with all the above intake mods. I do believe that a tuner, along with the intake and exhaust mods go hand-in-hand. So, Volant performance-I'd say from my experience, there is a difference. If you don't want to fork out the money for both a tuner and a Volant, get the tuner first and remove the piece off of the stock intake that connects to the fender, you'll feel a nice change, intake air temp really was not a factor.
Your stock system will flow more than enough air for your motor.
It's too bad more people dont understand this. Not only will it flow plenty for a stock engine, it does a better job of filtration. When you start adding forced induction or other internal modifications, however, it's a whole different matter. Real bang for the buck? Go for the tuner.
Ive never been a big fan of the foam filters, but Larry just added a video on our TrueFlow page that shows a few tests between the differant types of filter elements. I have an AiRaid on my Diesel, so I wont be spending the money to try one myself. Larry is kicking around the Idea of trying it on the 7.3L Excursion, because they are relatively cheap. Myself I just ordered the AEM Dryflow replacement filter element. No need to oil, and suppose to perform as good as the others. We will have to wait and see. The Volant is our best seller for the F150's, with the trueflow second. I would say check out the video. It is pretty interesting. There are many threads on this site with likes and dislike. Look around and be an educated buyer. There is alot of good reading in these pages.
