AFE, Airaid or Volant. Suggestions please

All with dry filters. Volant has power core
AFE: 345
Airaid: 339
Volant: 385

For 2012 5.0 with 5 star tune

I have used the volant in the past (2005 5.4) and really liked it with the tune i had. My brother has the airaid with a tune from 5star. I have no experience with AFE. Should i spend the money or use it towards something else. My truck runs great the way it is now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. I don't know why people think these engines are starving for air in the first place.

I am aware that these motors aren't "starving" for air and the stock setup flows great. But it does benefit from extra flow to go with a free flowing exhaust and tune. I'm just not sure if that extra flow is worth the $350 for these motors. I know my old 5.4 really benefitted from it. Like I said my truck runs great now and I don't "need" it. It's more of a want it or not. I'm leaning more towards a light bar and some rigid lights but I just haven't made my mind up yet.

I've added CAIs on most of my old V8 trucks in the past. I did it mainly for the sound, not expecting any huge power gains. I had a Roush CAI on my 06. I did notice slightly better throttle response, and a much better growl from the CAI.

Keep it stock and spend the money on something more worthwhile.

That's what I'm thinkin. I have already ordered led tai lights, 3rd brake light and tailgate fire and ice bar. It's getting harder to find other things I want on the truck.

i've always used the stock air box and just removed the silencer on the inlet side.

same sound as the CAI, same Cold air coming in, and i get to buy my filters anywhere.

i have not looked at a new 5.0, but i'll bet there is a silencer for the air coming into the airbox.

just a thought

i bought the fast fit volant cai and its pretty cool 170 bucks. combined with a magnaflo muffler and res delete ($180) at my favorite muffler shop my truck sounds AWESOME!!!. and seems to have more torque and definitely likes to hit the top end faster.Tax refund money well spent in my opinion lol.

I have thought about the fast fit setup also. The truck is already fast for as big as it is, I just don't see the extra couple lb/ft helping it to much. Not so much worried about top end even though I have had it up well over the speed limiter. Buried the needle a couple times. Tax money is a great way to get what you want. I never received mine from 2011 so I got sent a double return this year. Which was very nice.

score on the tax money. but ultimately its all about what you want from your truck i was mainly going for the sound,I wanted that deep whoosh from the intake and the muffler speaks for itself. And i got it as cheap is i possibly could lol.the fast fit probably isn't gonna be a true "cold air" intake as the filter is still partially exposed to the engine bay but its friggin half price and i believe you can add on the other componants later to build the "unfast fit" version. And as far as someone earlier said to remove the silencer in the stock tube I personally didn't want to destroy/modify the stock setup so I could always have the option of converting back.

I love the sound a good intake makes but i don't think it would be heard over my single chamber cherry bomb. It's dumped before the rear axle and really loud. I was thinking i could just go all out and get a boss 302 manifold. Or I could save and eventually go with a supercharger. Chances of that are very slim though
