Volant Cold Air Intake

I am planning of purchsing a Cold Air Intake for my V10 X...

Done my homework and have done quite some research and it seems that a lot of owners upgrading to the Volant CAI (with air box) are happy and see quite an improvement in performance.

If anybody has installed that system on his/her V10, I greatly would appreciate any input, comments or praises.

Thanks, Andy

not on a V10 but I put one on my 6.0L diesel and it was a great installation and am happy with performance.

On a turbo or supercharger application, you will see increase in power. (In my 03 Cobra a Cold air intake was worth an extra pound of boost and about 30HP)

Normally aspirated engines do not see a big enough increase to make it worth the expense. K&N says their CAI intake is worth something worth 8 or 10HP on a V10. You;d never feel the difference.

I put a Banks Powerpack on my '00 V10 and it included a K+N type replacement with a different 'Banks specific' housing to contain it. Banks doesn't make improvements where they're not needed, so you might assume there was airflow to be gained by replacing the stock conical 'pleated paper' filter on the V10.

Interestingly, Banks doesn't replace the Donaldson on their 6.0L kits. Probably because the stock 6.0L Donaldson filter flows way more than one would ever need!

Take Care

I Have installed Volant CAI(w/the box) on my Ex. Took me about 45 min.
Detailed instructions included in the kit. Just remove the old tube and box, but be gentle with the MAS. Install the new tube, MAS and box. Had a 15 sec struggle with getting the filter into the box and connected, but that was about all the hassle there was. The whole kit appears well crafted, stainless steel clamps and silicone hoses all fit perfectly. It is about 2 years ago since I installed the kit, and I have had no issues with it. Just be careful to clean an reoil the filter every 5000 km (I live in the metric part of the world). Also be careful not to overspray the filter when oiling. This will only affect the performance by getting the MAS dirty, and sending inaccurate signals to the brain.

Regarding the improvements, I noticed a quicker throttle respond and stronger midrange. I use my Ex as my daily driver, so I got the improvements where I need them.
