Volant Cold Air Intake
Done my homework and have done quite some research and it seems that a lot of owners upgrading to the Volant CAI (with air box) are happy and see quite an improvement in performance.
If anybody has installed that system on his/her V10, I greatly would appreciate any input, comments or praises.
Thanks, Andy
Normally aspirated engines do not see a big enough increase to make it worth the expense. K&N says their CAI intake is worth something worth 8 or 10HP on a V10. You;d never feel the difference.
Interestingly, Banks doesn't replace the Donaldson on their 6.0L kits. Probably because the stock 6.0L Donaldson filter flows way more than one would ever need!
Take Care
Detailed instructions included in the kit. Just remove the old tube and box, but be gentle with the MAS. Install the new tube, MAS and box. Had a 15 sec struggle with getting the filter into the box and connected, but that was about all the hassle there was. The whole kit appears well crafted, stainless steel clamps and silicone hoses all fit perfectly. It is about 2 years ago since I installed the kit, and I have had no issues with it. Just be careful to clean an reoil the filter every 5000 km (I live in the metric part of the world). Also be careful not to overspray the filter when oiling. This will only affect the performance by getting the MAS dirty, and sending inaccurate signals to the brain.
Regarding the improvements, I noticed a quicker throttle respond and stronger midrange. I use my Ex as my daily driver, so I got the improvements where I need them.
