IT"S HERE! After 11 1/2 weeks! My truck came in last Thursday. Built Tuesday. Everything is perfect, runs GREAT! I accidently (HONEST!) spun out pulling away from the first stop light. Thing JUMPS at the least touch of the throttle which is taking some getting used to after 2 years in a diesel!
Had 3 miles on it when I picked it up, got 63 now. And got my first race coming home from work today! It was either an 05 or an 06 blue and silver 6.0 long bed (mine's a short bed) with 20' rims. He jumped me at the light (I wasnt really expecting to race, just give it a little extra to pull away from him), as soon as I heard he was flooring it I gave mine about 3/4 throttle (I was guessing that was all I could do without just lighting the tires) then slowly put it to the floor and stayed there till about 65 mph. At that time his front bumper was between my rear tire and rear bumper somewhere. I let off (truck isnt even broke in yet!) and he went ROARING past me. My trucks so quiet all I could hear the hole time was his truck. I LOVE MY NEW TOY!
NOW, this one incident aside! I've driven 63 miles now and am only getting 9.6 mpg... Is it going to get better? I've got 4.30 gears and the Torqueshift in a crew cab. Many guys mentioned getting 13 in town. I was only reading 10. somthing BEFORE the race today. Its not going to make me love the truck any less! THATS FOR SURE!!! But I'd like to at least get double digit mileage (#s right of the decimal point dont count!). I filled the truck up myself after leaving the dealer with 89 octane (they gave me a coupon for Speedway).
Sorry if YOU were the guy on I24 in the diesel today... NOT REALLY!!! It was just FUN!
Congratulations on your new truck! I've read some of your posts and know you've been anxiously waiting for this day!
Your mpg should improve as the engine breaks in... from what I've read, it takes several thousand miles before the milage starts to get better.
I'm getting 12 mpg all around and about 14 highway with my '03 4x4 crew cab.
Okay, sure. Right, fine. You'll get a lot better mileage - in your dreams....
Actually, it really will improve some, for two reasons. One is that there's quite a bit of blow-by right now until the cylinders get better sealed maybe around 5K to 10K, and the other is that it will take that long to discipline your gas foot not to take on every little twerp on the road....
You can hope for twelve, especially after the summer gas blends come back. Ain't it great? The feeling is indescribable!

BEST OF LUCK! it's about time that dealer got it for you.
your bseg count has just begone man, and yes the mileage will get better at about 7k or 150 hours of run time on the meter. at that point you will also notice that it has a little more power also. something in the pcm tuning.
again best wishes ,now i'm going back to bed up to long already
Thanks guys! I took her out for another hundred miles today taking it down to half a tank. After filling it back up with 93 octane even my wife noticed "it seems to run a little nicer now". SUPRISED ME! Compression in this truck is LOW, I wouldnt have thought it would even like 93 but was wondering. "What can it hurt? Still cheaper than the diesel I was buying for my last truck!". I reset the mileage computer this morning and it still stayed around 9.5 until I put the 93 in it. Again, MUCH to my suprise, the mileage climbed to 10.7 after topping off the tank (exact same type driveing). I realize this isnt NEARLY enough mileage to get an accurate reading... But have you others seen this?
Hurry up and get back on your feet captchas! Life's to short to let doctors keep you in bed! Good Luck!

Charlie, good to see you back. Hope you are not in too much pain.
MAN! I totally forgot to say. "THANK YOU GUYS FOR RECOMMENDING THE 4.30 GEARS!!!" Especially captchas. You were all TOTALLY right! I was really nervous about having ordered such a low rear end, espesially after I've had 4.10's in other trucks and thought they were to low (I liked 3.73's up till now). The 4.30's are right on the money for this rig. Perfect off the line, and not wound out on the highway either (5 speed auto really makes a differance there!)
no he should not have too, but it's his choice and one i also made, as around my home you don't know what is being pumped from whom brand wise at the locals. "both are off brand no name "
personally i don't see it hurting the truck in way or form, other then it only needs 87 in the owners manual. many guys have just tried different brands till they found the right one, i think fred and wrench use chevron and love it. again it's a try and see thing.
if he feels its better with 93 more power to him. the one thing that 93 has is more fuel cleaners in the mix that = less carbon/gum build upon the intake valves down the line and longer running clean injector tips
Don't run the 93 too much! it will be fine on 87.
unless you suspect the 87 or 89 is of lower grade.
Reason being these engines have no provision for octane sensing and with lower compression, your dumping unburned fuel out the pipe to contaminate the o2 and the Cat.
Its okay now and then.
Have fun ! I'm on the wait for my new one ! should be here in a few more weeks.
keep a eye on your oil level during break in!

Funny, there's pipelines all over the place for gasoline around here, and guess what? It's all the same stuff. The difference is in the additive packages, giving different octanes, dyes and cleaners. And 10% ethanol
Doesn't matter what brand is in the tank if the station has dirty tanks and the water seperators haven't been drained in 6 months ...
I just know with stock modulars (not 3-valvers) I get the most power and throttle response in all weather with 87 octane. With 93, they run worse...
But who knows, maybe the 3-valvers are setup to advance more and rely on the knock sensor more? So if you're running higher octane it takes advantage of it? Might be a "trick" Ford used...
