Nascar
I read that the Toyota carolla is going to be a part of NASCAR in the near future. I was wondering what others thought about the Japanese auto maker entering into "America's sport"? I am a little peeved because everywhere I go I hear "Honda this and Toyota that!" It looks as though I and everyone else is gonna hear it every Sunday afternoon as well.

I HONESTLY don't know what Toyota are going to achieve by doing it.
They have built a brand successfully on smaller displacement, higher technology engines, and are entering a sport where you can't even run fuel injection....

This has already been being debated on another thread. But heres my two cents.
None of the cars are driving stock motors, stock chassis, stock electrical, or even stock air flow.
Why can't Toyota get into NASCAR? You can't buy a Ford Fusion with a V8, hell, can you even buy a monte with a V8 now? I thought they were going to race the camry.
Point is, its no longer a stock race anymore, and if they can afford to put their sticker on the car, more power to them. Good advertising.

As far as the cars go, the only thing stock on the cars now is the hood skin and trunklid skin, and I'm not even too sure about those 2 nowadays. The rest is all 100% custom.

Yep, he's right, only in the SS can you get a V8. Point is, most cars in Nascar don't even come standard with a V8, and the ONE car that does have one is a special model. The Ford Fusion doesn't have a V8 option, thats certain, so since this is a Ford site, please don't use that as merrit for a car being able to race in nascar. If thats the requirement, they'd have to race crown vics or Mustangs.

They will start w/ 3 2 car teams
Bill Davis Racing-Dave Blaney will drive 1 of them
Waltrip-Jasper Racing-Michael Waltrip driving 1
The other team is yet unnamed although Harvick and Robbie Gordon's names have been mentioned. The other BDR and WJR drivers are also unnamed. Waltrip had signed to drive for BDR this year w/ Napa sponsorship. He announced he and Jasper were forming their own race team last week. I assume that Toyota wanted more cars and negotiated a deal with Waltrip and BDR. Out of Harvick and R. Gordon....my guess would be Gordon.

The very early NASCAR races were won by sixes (flathead no less) that were in Hudson Hornets and Plymouths. Then Oldsmobile came along with the Rocket 88 V8 and took over. The Ford Fairlanes & Galaxies along with the Chevrolet Bel-air and Impala as well as the Plymouth Savoy and Fury all had 6 cylinders as stadard and V8s were optional.
