Andrew: I am trying to figure out how to mount a set of slim-line Backup lights that I got for Christmas to my bumper. You said you mounted yours to hitch receiver. Did you move the stock Ford 7pin trailer connector to the left and how did you attached your lights to the receiver. I have a factory installed hitch and trailer wiring and am not sure of the best approach. Could you possibly post a picture of your mounting system for your lights. Thanks Will
Well, the weather here is not cooperating. I have put an picture in my gallery that shows the lights, but until it stops pouring, can't get one up close. Hope this is a good start. I did not relocate the hitch plugs, just put the lights as far to the outside as possible so it would not really interfere.
Thanks Andrew: I was thinking of mounting mine right where you mounted yours. I may mount them tighter to the receiver, inside the trailer connector, but I'm not sure.
Thanks Alot.
Pilot has a cheap set of reciever hithc brackets that simply zip-tie or hose clamp onto the receiver. They come with some cheap lights, I jsut spent the $20 bucks for the brackets and then put my PIAA's in there. They light things up nice.
They are wired to come on with the reverse lights or from the switch in the cab.
I have had the white knight brand lites for about a year. They are good lites ,I wired them into the trailer lite wiring so they come on when you back up. They have a switch to turn them on/ off/ or with your back up lights. The only problem you might have is your trailer might partly block the light if is a bumper hitch.
Did they fit without interfering with the trailer plugs? I have an 05 that has both plugs. Also did it interfere with mounting hitches in the receiver?
OverHeight . mine is mounted on an 03 not sure if the plug is mounted the same.mine is also a dual plug but I did have to unbolt it and rotate the plug to the left a little. The light mounts around your reciever and sticks out further then the reciever alone so you will need a longer hitch. which is really not that big of a deal to find one long enough. you can still use your tow chain hooks. If you use a locking hitch pin its kind of a challenge to unlock it, a regular pin with the hair pin retainer works ok. hope this helps
Sounds like the pain I guessed it might be. I'm for ever changing receivers and I use a receiver lock. Getting in there with keys to unlock and lock all the time might be more hassle than its worth. Thanks for the feedback, saves me wasting money on something that I might get pissed at. I still think they are sweet lights though!
