reverse lights upgrade

has anyone found a better (brighter) bulb for the reverse lights. I am planning on adding a camera, but a little more light back there would be nice. Would like to avoid adding separate lights as I don't want them hanging off the bumper. I am probably going with the philips ultra crystals as recommended on here for up front, but could not even find a bulb number for the reverse lights. Thanks, Mike

One thing to keep in mind - brighter lights tend to give off more heat. While the reverse light housings have some size to them, I'd watch the housings to make sure they don't start to melt over time from the extra heat given off by the brighter bulbs. Let us know how you make out with them...once you find them.

This site will give you the bulb numbers for your truck.

I've already upgraded my rear tail light bulbs to LED, and I really like them. They are much brighter than the halogen ones I had before. I now want to upgrade my reverse lights to LED too.

I used V-LED's for my bulbs and highly recommend them.

I upgraded my back-up lights when I first got my 99. I used halogens from J C Whitney. I am sure there are better, but these do give off more light and have worked fine for 5 years. Not fancy but work good.

I ended up picking up some leds (20/side) for reverse lights. They might be a little brighter - but really much. But they were only $22 shipped so I am not really irritated about it. May try some brighter ones (more leds) but don't want to spend $50 right now. Thanks, Mike.

If you buy a decent camera you shouldn't need to change out your bulbs. The main thing is don't buy a cheap camera, and compare the specs to get one with the lowest light sensitivity. This is the one I have, and the stock lights are plenty bright enough. Pioneer USA - Rear-view Cameras

I agree, I have the same Pioneer camera as well. I am using the stock bulbs and it is as bright as day with that set up.

Okay - I guess I'll wait and see what camera Santa got me. If none I was going to get the Kenwood one (kenwood deck) but i will search around here and see what others are using also. The pioneer looks nice but seems pricy. Thanks, Mike

I haven't looked at it but I bet the Kenwood one is comparable to the Pioneer spec wise so you'll probably be happy with it, if Santa doesn't drop the ball that is.
