Fog Lights

Does anyone know where to get a good set of fog lights or how to improve the existing set. I have a 99 f-150 and the stock set is very dissapointing.

Have you heard of PIAA brand fogs? If you could measure the factorys they might have a good replacement set for you

Depo is the only aftermarket supplier for those fogs and they use the same bulb, they just have a clear lense. Check into this link though. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=412732

Perhaps the fog ights are fine, the bulb are just useless. On my last truck I swapped the bulbs with the higher color temperature and noticed a dramatic improvement. They ususally draw the same current but produce a whiter color. My last set lasted were fine when I traded the truck last week so it was 58000 miles in 4.5 years. I paid about 10-15 for the lights bulbs. Just a thought.

I had trield Silverstars in my wife's Mountaineer is was unimpressed by them. The lights I had were by a company called Biolight. They said Super white Xenon bulbs. I changed both the Headlights and Fog lights and they were a bluish white. Huge difference. Now, the bad part and maybe someone can validate this. I had an Avalanche. On the Avalanche Fan Club website, 1 or 2 of the people state they too bought aftermarket bulbs from somewhere. I do not know the type. But in some of them, they actually become hotter and could damage the housing. I guess if the bulb is the same size, the voltage and current drawn is the same, this would seem unlikely, except for the fact that whatever gas inside the bulb that produces a hotter color could in fact have a lower ignition and burn hotter at that perticular current. So, be careful and check the lights when you change the bulbs. I would change one light and watch it for a while (like watching grass grow) like 0.5 - 1.0 hour. Also, use rubber gloves when handling any halogen light bulb ( house, can, stove, whatever) because oil will cause it to burn out quicker. Sorry I sound like a salesman for light bulbs, but I am not.

PIAA bulbs are a notch above the rest is always what I have heard. I have always had factory bulbs but I do have PIAA wipers on my truck. Those are awesome honestly, will have them on any vehicle I ever own. Everyone tells me that is just PIAA. High dollar, but a notch above the rest. Some other options for bulbs you may wanna look at are APC and Eurolite. For fog lights maybe check out Eagle Eye and KC.

Fog lights are designed as added light to compliment the low beams esp in bad weather. They are not intended to be brighter than the headlights. They are designed to emit light in a wide pattern for a short distance. Driving lights are designed to compliment the high beams. Most factory auxilary lights are fog lights not driving lights. The factory fog lights are better than most of the aftermarket ones. Hella makes excellent auxilary lights.

I won't use the PIAA head light bulbs. I have seen a 5.0 Mustang and either a Durango or Cherokee that had the head light assemblies melted. Actually I think it also started to melt some wires at the connector as well. The PIAA bulbs are higher wattage. At least they used to be, they could have changed. The higher wattage ones also irritate oncomning drivers. Also, I can't see paying 100 bucks for bulbs. I use the SilverStars. They are better than the regular halogen bulbs. SilverStars are a mix of halogen and xenon. I personally don't like the lights that are really bluish. They suck in bad weather.
