I'm gonna be doing the works on my six here in the next week, intake, carb, headers and etc. Anyways I'm gonna have to run it about 50 miles of just open headers because my old exhaust ain't gonna bolt up, the only thing is I'm not sure how cold it's gonna be in nebraska, yesterday it was 60, today there's a chance of snow........idk...., I wonder though when I get home if I could just cap em off with some coffee cans or something to keep the heat in? Also I'm putting a 500cfm carb on this thing, doeas anybody have an idea of what jets or metering rods I'll have to put in to match 1:75 rockers, towing cam and 60 over pistons, most I run it up to is 5K. Any comments would be apprieated, thanks
LOL, I love the sound, I'm the kinda person who would leave em open all the time, I just don't want it to cool off to fast after I shut it off and have it warp the valves. I'm not worried about running em cold, just shuttin it off when it's 10 degrees out.
With no exhaust at all you could have some damage, but witht the headers in place the heat exchange will not be so extreme that it is going to hurt anything at all.
No, it'll never damage it as long as it's running, it's just when I shut it off, I'll have to cap em or shove some rags or something in them, like at truck and tractor pulls after then make there run they cap there headers, but those are also up-draft which dissipate heat faster then down draft, but then agian it's also at least 70 degrees out when there pulling, it might be 40 here if I'm lucky.
