Any one know what it might cost to put in a concrete floor?
Put up a horse barn this fall (with stalls) would like the rest of the floor concrete.Area about 17x32 live in southern wi right near the il/wi border.
Would like to have a idea of cost b/4 any estimates.
I priced concrete at 50 dollars a cubic yard but that was several years ago. I do know one thing......it's a lot of hard work finishing concrete as it waits for no one.

idea of the cost- estimate- what's the difference? Just get a couple good estimates and compare. I put in a 12 foot sidewalk with quickrete this past fall. Mixed 18 bags of concrete with a ho and a wheelbarrow (1 bag at a time). It looks good, but a little rough, so if I were to do it again, I would want help with the finishing process. The whole process cost me about $300... and a very tired back.
One thing you may look in to, Taxes, if you have to have a permit and they come out to check on completion, here in Pa it's cheaper with no finished floor! If your locals are the same, have them inspect it before you pour floor. Just a thought.
Disclaimer for the above, I have no intention to beat out the tax man. I was just following that little voice in my head and no way would I ever do such a thing!
Now to shut up that little voice.

You are also going to see a LARGE price difference depending on which side you live on. The Beloit/Monroe/Platteville is going to be cheaper than the Racine Kenosha/Chicago-over-flow area.

Call a redi-mix plant and ask how much concrete it will take and what it will cost to do this big of an area. redi-mix plants get alot of homeowner/do-it-yourself concrete pour jobs too so they don't exclusivley deal with contractors.
Then if you have a little bit of know how do the whole thing yourself. Lots of time the redi-mix trucks will bring you a bullfloat to float it with and you can get a very nice poured slab for very little cost.
The last time I had concrete delivere to a job I was doing the stuff was about $100 a yard delivered, maybe a bit more but the price hadn't changed too much on me in the last few years.
Speaking as someone who drove a mudtruck for a few years, call a concrete company after you have the measurements (length, width, depth) for cost. Ask who they would recommend to do the job and get an estimate from them. Don't expect the driver of the truck to float it for you nor to bring you the tools you'll need to do it yourself. Don't even expect him to help push it around. calling in with a sore back after "helping" on a job sucks.
This job will be 6 3/4 yards with a 4" floor. The company that delivers the mud may charge a fee for delivery because it's less than a truck load but you may be able to negotiate that down. If you plan on doing this yourself, consider going with a higher slump, around 6 or 7, to give you time to work it before it becomes too stiff.
Making the slump wetter will reduce the strength of the product and will be a waste if money.
My 23 years experience in every aspect of the concrete business suggests just:
get in touch with someone local and have them come out and give you an estimate.
Note: Never pour a slab with more than a 4" slump.
PAY SOMEONE to do the work, if you don't have any experience working with concrete DON'T attempt doing it yourself you will end up disappointed.
I know of what I speak
& yes, as a driver I used to help people all I could.
