Help buying Digital Camera.

Looking to spend around $250.00 on a 4 or 5 mp. Which brand name cameras do you suggest. What to look for and what to stay away from.
Thanks in advance.

Try going to cnet.com, they have some really good reviews on just about every digital camera out there. You can also sort through all the cameras by brand, megapixels, price, etc.

I have been shopping around for some time and I think I have decided on a Casio EXILIM 7.2 megapixel model EX-Z120. Best Buy has it on sale now for $285, but I think it can be found cheaper elsewhere.

Good luck.

check out www.dpreview.com
I find it to be a great site for camera info. I tend to prefer Nikon and Canon.

You're right, $249 here

Once you find out what you want I would highly recommend www.bhphotovideo.com

I agree, go with an optics company like Nikon, or Canon. I had a reliability problem with a Sony, which I found out they have a wear-out problem with their lens assemblies. I replaced it with a Nikon D70, but that's out of your
price range....

To see some of the pictures I've taken with the D70, check out this photo

Before you spend the bucks, go to a big dept. store and try them all out...after you have done some research on features. Buy the one that you like best, fits you hand and needs and your pocketbook. Brands like Nikon, Canon, Minolta, Pentax and Olympus have the best glass and lens is everything when it comes to a camera that you keep and actually use. If you plan to upgrade very few years the process is a lot less complicated, buy only what you need and wait for newer technology to come along in a few years.

Great camera's. My wife tried both the D70 and D50, and went with the D50, because of the size, and the feature's that made the D70 different, weren't feature's she used. I've used it (and I'm no photographer) and gotten great results. But the camera body and the myriad of different lenses you may need are expensive.

The best thing to do before you buy any camera is decide what type of picture's your going to take. Action, still, sports, wildlife, all sorts, etc. Some camera's are better at some things than other's. Then read everything you can about digital photography lingo, and try to match your camera and needs up. I personally like the smaller camera only shop's. They're a little more pricey than the Best Buy type of store's, but the people are generally knowledgeable about the camera's and photography, and the info that they give is a lot more helpful.

You are correct! Since buying my D70, I have bought 2 more Nikon lenses:
17-55mm f/2.8, and 85mm f/1.4

In looking for a replacement for my Sony, I found this URL very informative:

Wow! Great article. Easy to read without a lot of techno babble and a great glossary. My wife has 6 or 7 Nikkor lenses, and 3 or 4 Tamron lenses. My favorite, and the only one I use (read as, she'll let me use) is the Tamron 28-300. What a great lens. And by far the cheapest of the bunch (which is probably why it's the only one I'm allowed to use). The camera is almost completely idiot proof.

everyones needs are different. I opt for the large zoom models, such as the Canon S2-IS or the Panasonic FZ series.
