Okay, for x-mas i'm asking santa clause for a digital camera. The problem is i'm not exactly sure on what to get. I was wondering what the best kind would be. I'm looking for somthing with a movie recording feature with audio, a good zoom, and a feature where you can zoom in and out and move left to right/up and down on a picture that you've allready taken, The price range for santa is about 0-200$$
So i'm looking for your suggetions, heres some research i've done allready
Fuji Finepix A210 Nice camera, it has the ablility to move around and zoom in/out on pics you've allready taken, and has movie mode, and seems to take exellent pics. But it doesnt have a audio for the movie mode, just picture, no sound.
Cannon Powershot A ?310? Ok camera, takes pics alright, has movie mode with sound, not sure of adjusting pics that were allready taken, but this one looks good
HP ?335? I dont really like the way its set up, but ithas movie mode with sound, and you can zoom in and out of pics allready taken , but not left to right, which is what i'm looking for.
On a digital camera with movie mode, it is only like 15 seconds, and the quality really really really sucks. You would be best off getting the best still camera that you can afford, and just say screw the movie mode. Also, make sure you get not just one huge memory card, but 2 medium sized ones, it is nice to have more than one card.
hey, thanks for the info, yeah, movie mode is pretty crappy on some, but on the fuji its ok, not like a 800$ video camrea, but its ok, and some can be as long as 120 seconds l, per 16 megabytes of storage you have, and i'm not going to really be using it for anything too important, just a couple of ski trips we go on, and other small events,
I just recently bought a cannon A300 (old model) . New model is A310. I love it for the photo's and quality. I haven't tried the movie mode as I don't really care to figure it out. Takes a card so I bought a second one they run about $35-50. We take the laptop everywhere so it makes it nice to be able to down load the pics erase the cards and start shooting again. Kevin
keporter-I think i'm leaning twards the cannon anyway. Does yours have a way that you can edit the pics you've allready taken? and what about computer software?
I have purchased two Canon A60's recently. It is only 2MP but that is a 1600x1200pixel picture which is way more than a computer screen. I use the 640x480 mode a lot which is 1/4 of my screen. It also has 1024x768. You can use Photoshop or many of the other photo editing software programs to zoom in on any portion of the picture after you have downloaded them. It will also take short movies with sound but to get slightly better resolution for movies you would need the A70. The A60 also has a macro mode that you can use to focus in real close on objects like flowers or that item you want to put on eBay.
I gave one of the cameras to my daughter which has it in Equador at the moment along with my extra 64M card.
I also have a big 35MM camera that I can use if I want to that gets used a few times per year. The digital gets used every few days by someone around here.
The camera comes with editing software but I haven't had to use it yet.
I traded in my Save-On points (kind of like blue chip stamps) for a Kodak DX6340, 10X zoom, Audio & Video, auto-orientation, 2 256mb SanDisk cards + on camera storage, Indoor/Outdoor LCD Display etc.
Not bad for just shopping for groceries. Will print High Resolution Prints up to 11" X 14".
I just bought a Canon Powershot S400 - got it for $400 but I really like the VERY compact size and case - plus its a 4 megapixel camera, however on your budget I'd strongly suggest the powershot A60 which will get you up to $200. Cannons processor is one of the best out there, I really like their movie mode too and I do actually use it. I can take 3 minute long movies with sound, plus the quality isn't too bad, no substitute for a camcorder but its decent, allows you to caputure unique things that you cant get with just a picture. I also have a friend with an A70 which if you went up to that you'd deffinitly not be dissappointed. Really though I think at $200 the A60 is a great little camera for small prints and web use. Good luck and don't forget extra memory!
Question for the digitally savy. If you want to shot a series of pictures, say a car race, with a digital camera - is there a long delay cycle between pictures or can you just snap away?
The cheaper the camera, the longer the delay. The Cannon EOS 10 D will take 3 fps for a max 9 frames, then need a minute to be able to do it all again. So for car races, you would be better off getting a digital movie camera, and using stills off the movie.
There have been a few cheaper cameras that will do rapid shots, but you would not be able to sell any graphics generated by them. They leave out too much detail. You are looking at cameras with a street price of over $1000 to get really good rapids.
