Hey all, been looking around for some type of skid plate to protect the front of the truck, and i'm amazed that i can't find a single place that sells one. I'd like to make sure my tranny cooler lines, coolant hose, and harmonic balancer have something to protect them if i get into some deep ruts and bottom the front end out.
If anyone knows of where i can get one let me know please.
Ford made a factory skid plate that goes under the radiator and extends rearward. It was part of the factory skid plate package that included a transfercase skid and a gas tank skid.
I would suggest getting a Ford factory skid from the bone yard.
What year Bronco had the skid plate? I've never seen one, do you have a picture?
My 92 F150 has a front factory skid plate. And Broncos would also I would suspect. The front skid plate protects the front steering linkage and the radiator and everything in front of the front axle.
I would think that the offroad package would have included this front skid plate.
I live in 4x4 heaven--Colorado--- and there isnt too many 1987-1996 F150s that have the factory skid plate package--and this surprises me--especially since the transfercase is so low to the ground.

I've owned 4 different bronco's, a '79, an '87, an '88 and an '89, none of them came with a front factory skid plate. That ford even makes one is a surprise to me! I used the cross beam out of an F-150 and bolted it under my rad and then bolted a piece of aluminum diamond plate to it (with a couple stategic bends) to make my own front skid plate. The top of it is bolted to the bumper. I've seen many different Bronc's at the wreckers and none of them had skid plates either...
Check the Ford Shop Manual for a picture of the factory stock front skid plate. I had no idea that it is so rare.
The front skid plate does make it hard though to change the bottom radiator hose and to reach the petcock of the radiator to drain it. But it also protects the bottom of the radiator and steering linkage when offroading.
Bone Yard search!!! Check out all of the 87 thur 96 F150,F250s that have the factory decal on the side of the bed--"4x4" and/or "Off road" --these should have the factory three skid plates: front, transfercase, and gas tank.
My 1994 has it but the sales order shows it as a dealer installed item. It wasn't with the factory skid plate option I guess.
Interesting. Maybe the Bronco didnt have the front skid plate as part of the package--or maybe Ford just ran out of them when your 94 was made. I have noticed over the years that Ford will delete parts or options for some vehicles and not gave the purchaser credit or even note it on the factory invoice.
