Go Ahead, laugh

, chuckle, or frown, you can even cuss as you pass me on the highway.

Guess what? I don’t care, at 55 my truck gets a little over 19MPG, at 70 ( well maybe a little more than 70 every once in a while. ) it drops to 16.8 (avge)

At still over two bucks a gallon? I’ll grit my teeth and drive 55.

So, I’m now one of those pain-in-the-tookus folks you pass who’s doing less than the legal limit.

I've noticed I'm not the only one too, if you drive on the same strectch of highway everyday you come to recognize other vehicles that use the same road every day. Some of them have slowed down.

It doesn't really bother me either when people blow by me and give me the "are you crazy?" look. I just keep on driving the speed limit, and give them a little wave when I pull up next to them at the next stop.

It's kind of funny, and irritating at the same time, watching people tear out of stoplights, whip around me, and then have to stop at the next light, just like me.

I'm with you guys. A few extra minutes, if it even takes that much longer, is cheaper than the extra gas.

What size engine do you have? I get about 18 out of my 69 on the highway, and upwards of 25 in town, it's bone stock with a 300-6, auto and 4.10 gears.

Pretty much the same, 82 150, 300 I6, C6 trans. Not sure about differential ratios. It will pull stumps if you want to though. One of these days I going to hook a tach up to it and see what RPM it runs at highway speeds

Might be the fact it's carbed, no mods at all. 12K on rebuild.

But, at about 70 per it's 16.8 - 17 MPG.
@55, 18.6-19.1

25? Not in that truck, milage hasn't changed much from the day it was new off the lot.

Pretty sure you're figuring it wrong. Unless you only get 8 mpg to begin with, then a 10% drop isn't that noticeable.

When I drive my car (Escort) at 75-80 mph to work I only get a around 32-33mpg, but if I slow down to 65-70, it increases to about 35. I don't seem to notice much difference with the windows up or down, though.

I don't laugh at the folks driving slow, but the ones driving 55 in the left lane really torque me.

On the newer cars with the trip computer and the instant mpg reading, it's interesting to see what the extra speed does to the gas mileage.

Just for kicks...

I took a trip last weekend, about 450 miles total. 1976 LTD, 400 2-bbl, pretty good mechanical shape, recently tuned up, new tires, etc. Driving down, I ran good roads, 65-70 MPH. Driving back I took a slower road, running 55 pretty much all of it. About the same number of towns on both. The trip down was right at 15 MPG. Coming back was almost 17. Driving my Tracer along the same route, which I've done several times, gave results of about 34-35 MPG at 65-70, nearly 40 if I hold 55. Yeah, it does take longer--maybe half an hour total--but it's a few dollars less for the oil companies.

Sorry, guys, that's me in the RIGHT hand lane doing the speed limit; I can care less what you think about me being pokey. Long as I'm not in the passing lane, you shouldn't have a problem, just as you go by .....

I certainly don't have any problem with anyone driving the speedlimit or slower, but I do have a problem with those that can't handle the minimum 40mph on the Interstates in my state.

I do have to chuckel at those that drive their trucks with the mirrors folded in, radio antenna removed, tailgate down, and have a tornado sticker in the back window!

The second paragraph is a laugh (havent figured out the method of highlighting quotes yet). But then a lot of us are a laugh (self included), given we have spent a bunch of money on motor mods that decrease mileage, and now are trying to figure out how to get the mileage back up.
