Took a trip across mid Ohio this weekend. If you arent familiar with Ohio, lets just say its pretty flat. It was 100 miles each way. Before I post the results everything on my truck is stock except what you see in the signature. I also have a tonneau cover. I had nothing in the bed and had 2 passengers with me less than 200 pounds each. I have 3.73 gears and factory 20" wheels/tires. I set the cruise control at 71-72 mph and traffic was really light so I only had to kick it out 1-2 times. It was all highway and I didnt reset the lie-o-meter until I reached 70 mph.
Going there I got 13.3 mpg and used 1/4 tank. Coming home (later in the same day) it was a little bit windy and must have been a head wind since I only got 12.6 mpg and used another 1/4 tank. As I got off the highway I felt the regen kick in and sure enough 2 miles later the message displayed. I drove 55 mph for 20 minutes on old country back roads and my MPG after the regen was 12.2.
Granted I could have lowered my speed but I certainly dont call 71-72 mph haulin azz (speed limit 65 mph) and I got passed by everything but the semi's. I just cant believe this is the best I can do on all highway and no hills.
I see some of you claim 16-18 on the hwy and I just dont see how its possible. Unless I drive 50 mph I will never see that, even then I may not. I wasnt loaded, I have a tonneau cover, I wasnt driving excessively fast, I used the cruise control, my truck has the tallest tire Ford offers and 3.73 gears. How can I possibly get to the 16-18 that some of you get at the same speeds?
I get 16-18 with the DPF off. Although I towed my four place aluminum snowmobile trailer about 300 miles up the interstate with 4 of us and 4 sleds. I set the cruise at 75 and I was getting less than 8mpg with the dpf off. My 6.0 would have been around 12. That's bad.
I have a dually, a lot heavier as I carry about a ton on board. I get about 1 1/2 mpg less than you. I have 4.11 rears. I am happy with 11-12 mpg, because when I want to pull something, I know I am safe and sound. If something happens, there are garages everywhere. To me, that is why I bot a FORD. I have 17" rubber. By the way, have you recalibrated your speedometer or had it checked?
rmosso1, I havent checked to see that its calibrated but its just the way it came from Ford so I have to assume its ok. It seems consistent with other cars around me for the given conditions.

Wow, that does seem bad for towing mileage (no DPF). What was your weight? I towed 10-11k on a 400 mile trip last year and we ran like there was a fire somewhere. I didnt use the cruise and maintained about 80 mph (limit was 70). I only got 7 mpg but based on how I drove I had no room to complain.
I know the mileage wont compare to my 6.0 and I have learned not to expect that. I was hoping that since my trip was all hwy and ideal conditions I could get 15-16. That would still be less than the 18 my 6.0 got but certainly acceptable considering the DPF on this truck.
Well, in Dec I drove on I 70 thru ohio as I was headed out west to AZ for Christmas. I drove the same speeds as you and I got just under 17 if I recall. Coming back home from vacation heading east was around 15 mpg.

I would check it out. I think there standards for F-350 are 17 dually, and 18 swl.
You have 20" . Maybe someone messed up at factory.
The trailer with sleds was about 5000lbs. It is very hilly though, and it never came out of overdrive. Last summer I was pulling through the mountains with my 12000lb fiver and got 11-12. I think it has to be the temp. as it was singles to teens hauling the sleds. Temp seems to make a huge diff. in fuel mileage.

I hate you! Burst in to flames, burst in to flames!
Just kidding Senix but that is much more what I was hoping for. 15 would have been fine.
I have same truck as rmosso1. I can get a consistent 15+ mpg, but I keep it at 62 to 65 mph 2000 on the rpm's. Best was 17, but that was ideal conditions. Just got new flash done on friday, seems to be the same which is ok with me.
I went about 200 miles round trip this week end, I reset my lie o meter when I began the trip, towing a 16ft tandem axle trailer w/ 3 utility quads about 4500lbs got 15.7 mpg "on the lie o meter" 68-70 mph

You guys run winter fuel in Ohio this time of year? I was wondering if that is part of your issue. I'm in NC and not sure if we use this fuel or not. Guess i'm a lucky one as i'm in the 15-17 range on hwy empty running 70mph. I don't have the new flash yet and am a little scared to try it based on so many having worse mileage than me.
We do live in Ohio at the 151 MM on the Turnpike. We run both directions on the Ohio and Indiana tpk(fairly flat) and into Pa ( some small grades). We do stay at the speed limit of 65 MPH. We also have a bed cover. We get better MPG than you do on a regular basis. We easily got 15 to 17 on the trip you describe. I do not know what is different about my truck. We are a job 1 early build and got the new flashes last month. We are doing better on the MPG since the flash.(we are still in Florida)
On a trip to Minnesota last december, all interstate driving I managed between 15-16 mpg. Now, this past weekend, I drug a 11,000 lb TT down to Missouri and back, kept speed around 65-mph and got 9-mpg. Now, coming back today with 30+mph winds all the way home, the mileage tanked to 7-mpg, but the truck just motored through it. Hope there is some improvement as the mileage increases.
I will be taking a 1,600 mile round trip from NorCal to Phoenix next week. First big trip w/ the truck (unloaded). Curious if I can squeez out 15-16 mpg. W/ my '05 Dodge CTD same trip/route I got 18mpg w/ same size tires as in my sig.
