1700 mile trip report

Got home last night from an unexpected trip to the land of my ancestors. Logged 1730 miles. Route was Wa highway 410 over Chinook pass, then SW over the Blue mtns in Oregon, through Boise, and across south Idaho to Idaho Falls. Return trip, same route. Hand calculated every tank of gas. Went from a low of 15.2, to a high of 16.1 for an average of 15.65 MPG's. Re-set the trucks computer at the start and it said I averaged 15.8, so it is a little off. I'm actually pretty happy with that highway mileage. I'm not a leadfoot, I kept the cruise set at the speed limit when not on hills, and my top cruising speed was 75. I pretty much just left the trans do it's thing the whole way except on a couple steep spots, and I was very happy with it. Shifts were smooth and firm and it would hold speed on inclines very well, some times without shifting down, just noticed the TC locking/unlocking at times. I was running without a load or trailer, but even so, it would pull hard up hills at under 2K RPM's. tells me there is some amount of grunt down there. Can't say enough about the ride comfort of these trucks! You can feel that it's a stout platform, but is very ergonomic, smooth and relatively quiet, as well as having road manners. Drove straight through on the return trip and didn't feel at all sore, or overly fatigued. The brakes are awesome as well. Coming down Chinnok pass last night at sunset an elk jumped out in front of me. Almost had to screech to a complete stop from 55 MPH. Smooth and quick, with very little noticeable pedal pulse.

Sorry for being a little long winded on what basically amounts to a mileage report, but I just wanted to say that the more I drive this truck, the more I like it! One last observation; of all the 2011+ Super Dutys I saw on this trip, only three were gas, and one of those was a chassis cab w/flatbed work truck, so, as we know, we are definitely the minority. Happy trails all.

Good news and thanks.
Posted a report of my own on a fresh 6.2.
A gas station is Salem had bunker fuel at 64 cents per gallon more than regular.
We might become the majority.

On our trip down south it varied from 40 to 80 cents difference
