air flow sound inside cab
My buddy has a 2002 Escape. He has had a hissing sound inside his cab for a couple weeks. It sounded just like a major vacume leak. It was coming from the pedals area. Today his car has trouble starting nad when it does, it can't really idle well. It runs ok when you give it gas. It sounds like a classic vacume leak but would that hissing sound inside the cab be related? What could that noise be?

I also have a 2002 Escape and just since about 2 days now I'm hearing a hissing sound (like air escaping) when I drive and it stops only when I touch the brakes.
It sounds like its coming from the pedals area and the hissing contiunes after the car is shut of (for a couple seconds) then it stops

I agree, I've seen several brake boosters replaced with the common hissing noise. The dealership should charge less than $350 to fix. Some have been charged $500 for the brake booster and master (I guess they wanted to replace everything). Or you can buy the part for less than $90 at a parts store and fix it yourself.

Thats what I was thinking but I've never had it start leaking into the cab on any other vehicle. Normally your brakes just get really low as the pressure in the booster leaks by the manifold.

I just got my car back from the mechanic and yup it was the brake booster... not that I know what it does or anything... LOL
