Power Locks
Why don't the power locks lock automatically once the vehicle is in motion? Every car that I have had or driven going back to at least '99 model years has had this feature. Kinda got used to it. Now on the '04 Escape I have to lock them manually.
Is this an option or just another lousy feature of the '04? Don't even get me going about the stupid A/C controls....

Who engineered this vehicle?
Regards.
Regardless, I was complaing about the features, not necessarily the manufacturer. My point was, why did they take a step back with the power locks? Every car I have driven in the last few years has the power locks automatically lock the doors when you start moving forward. And why does the power window over-ride switch prevent the driver from controlling the passenger windows.....just plain lousy design, whoever made it.
My gripe with the A/C controls is why don't they just put an A/C on/off switch so that i I want cold air on my feet or a mixture of dash and feet, I can get it....all this would cost nothing to implement.
Other than these minor annoyances, I love the car.
By the way, the manual says nothing about changing the way the door locks work. I'll see if the dealer can reprogram.
Thanks

About the A/C control, are you saying it doesn't have an AC switch seperate from the vent selector switch? Sounds like it is set up like my 2000 Ranger which I don't like also. On the Ranger if you set the vent selector switch to bi-level (upper and lower vents) you do not get air conditioned air. On our 2005 Tribute we do have the seperate air conditioner switch; just switch it on and the A/C compressor kicks on reguardless of where the air intake selector switch is set (upper, lower, or bi-level) along with another selector switch for recirculate or fresh air. Kinda wonder why Ford set up the Escape that way and Mazda another way.

On the Ranger if you set the vent selector switch to bi-level (upper and lower vents) you do not get air conditioned air.
Got it backwards: on bi-level you get A/C'ed air unless the outside temp is below 50 degrees or something like that.
Just because your old cars has the feature doesn't mean Ford has to
include it in the new vehicles. My Tbird was a V8 with about 270 torque, why doesn't Ford make a V8 Escape with more torque ?
The auto lock doesnt work for some people unless Ford include a dip switch for you to turn the function on/off. Imagine a family of 4 getting in the Escape. First the driver get in and start and warm the vehicle, they he/she has to unlock the doors so that the 3 passengers can get in.
my 95 Tbird doesnt have auto lock or remote door open/lock. I bought a $40 thing install to the car and got myself a remote door and trunk open. It has a dip switch on the main unit to enable auto door lock.
By the way, whoever don't have the rear parking assist and want it, you can buy it and install yourself. I installed one to my Escape. It even has digital display showing distance.

Please note: the following is NOT mine. I did a copy/paste from www.focusfanatics.com but it should be the same for whatever late(r) model ford you are driving.
Step 1
Confirm that the perimeter alarm is disarmed.
Step 2
Close all doors.
Step 3
Confirm that the ignition switch is in the OFF position.
Note: Steps 4 through 8 must be performed within 30 seconds.
Step 4
Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.
Step 5
Press the power door lock UNLOCK button three times.
Step 6
Turn the ignition switch from RUN to OFF.
Step 7
Press the power door lock UNLOCK button three times.
Step 8
Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.
Step 9
Verify that the RAP module chirps the horn. This indicates that the RAP module is now in the enable/disable mode and ready to accept program changes.
Step 10
Press the power door lock UNLOCK button one time to command the RAP module to toggle the autolock/relock feature ON or OFF.
Step 11
Press the power door lock LOCK button once to enter the command.
Step 12
Verify that the vehicle horn chirps one time to signal the RAP module confirmation of the command. There should only be one chirp indicating that the autolock/relock feature has been disabled. If one chirp is heard, followed by a longer honk, the autolock/relock feature has just been enabled. Return to step 10.
Step 13
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position to exit the enable/disable mode.
Step 14
Verify that the RAP module chirps the horn once to indicate that a feature has been changed.
any help would be great thanks
