You can use the History function of your browser to find it easier (just look through Yesterdays folder). A list of "real world" most efficient vehicles would be really nice to have. I'm sure others would appreciate it too. Thanks.

Its the 500 hp v-10 that is on the list for 10-12 mpg not the Hemi. Actually the 06 Hemi in the trucks are rated for 19 highway.

My 5.4-3V gets almost exactly the same mileage as yours. The Dodges I'm familiar with (4.7 AT 4X2) gets about 15 on the highway and less around town.

Read the November issue of Motor trend, there is an article about the sales of full sized trucks, and Ford leads sales.

Here's the federal listings for mpgs.

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/byclass.htm

Just click on the pickup truck class. The 5.4L F150 2wd gets 14 city/19 highway. The 5.7L Ram 2wd gets 15 city/19 highway. Those are for the new for 06 ram. If you use the 05 numbers, the f150 2wd gets 14/19 and the 4wd gets 14/18. The 05 ram 2wd is rated at 14/18 and the 4wd gets 13/17.

What it doesn't list is that the HEMI uses 89 octane while the 5.4L uses 87. Good luck getting those numbers in the mega cab with it's 6100 lb curb weight.

The MegaCab is an good addition to Dodge's truck lineup. They needed a larger cab, and have for a while. Now they have one, and are planning on releasing a dually. They have prettymuch everything covered, except the long box option. Which may not hurt them that much, considering that most trucks with extended cabs are sold with short box configuration. I have seen the MegaCab in person, and I have to say it looks alot better than in any pictures I've seen of it. All in all, a good effort, and a good result for Dodge. I can see them selling plenty of these rigs in the future.

As for the gas milage. Dodge now offers Multi Displacement System (MDS) on ALL 5.7l HEMI engines. This includes the Ram lineup. A total of 20% better fuel economy. The HEMI's are currently getting decent milage, or as decent as you could expect out of a 1/2 ton-3/4 ton pickup truck. I havn't seen any indication of a 5.7 HEMI getting 10-12 mpg. That must be an error. But it sounds more like the MPG ratings for the 8.3l V10. Dodge and Ford get about the same milage out of thier big V8s.(5.4 & 5.7)

As for build quality. Dodge trucks are built just as good as any other. They have come a long way in the last 10-15 years, and are now building very reliable, and dependable pickups. This has been beat to death alot on these boards before.

Best Regards.

My brothers gets 11with his hemi. He is packing around about 1000 lbs in tools and a utility bed. It is a 4x4 auto with ac. He was getting 8-9 with his v10 and feels the hemi has more spunk than his f350 did. I drove both and agree the hemi is faster. The big benifit to the 6.9 was that it had gobs of low end. Something I feel the hemi is lacking in.

The best thing I've seen about the mega cab are those new dually fenders they're going to offer with the DRW short bed model. I like those alot. That's old school there.
Ford and GM could take some cues from that design - Dodge should also use them on their long bed models as well. It's obvious these are just a cheap modification due to Dodge not being able to use the DRW flares from the long bed models on the short bed, but sometimes less is much more.

If there's one complaint I have about DRW models from any manufacturer - it's those ridiculously large blossoming bubble fenders they stick on the trucks. I understand most duallys are sold to people who intend to pull 5'vers and nothing more, but what about the guys who need the carrying capacity of the dually but can't reach over those large fenders from the side to load and unload tools and misc items?

On top of this, if you should wreck one of those cheap fenders Dodge is using - it's a cheap fix, unlike these newer fenders which can cost 1000.00.

So far as build quality, you hear it all the time "Dodge has come a long way". To put it more in to perspective - so has everyone else. I don't think Dodge ever had a quality problem to begin with, at least not when compared to similar Ford's or GM's from equal eras. Seeing is believing for most people. If anyone here were glued to my hip for a months time, you'd be forced to see what my Dodge's are capable of. If you were glued to my hip 16 years ago, you'd be forced to see how I cleared 10 acres of yellow pines and white oaks off our old family farm with a chain. Some of these trees were 10 inches in diameter. It was an 86 D250 with 318 and NP435 4 speed - and when all was said and done we simply replaced the beat up bed with a new one from the junk yard and re-registered it for the road. We werent going to beat on the new Ford we had or my grandfather's one year old Chevy - so the Dodge got the job. Truck held up just fine. That truck never needed so much as a clutch in the 170,000 miles we put on it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for converts, far from it. I love Ford trucks above all. But IF you guys had seen this for even a few days, you'd never forget what you saw - whether you wanted to or not.

I don't know about the mega cabs, but in my opinion, the front ends on those new trucks are butt-ugly. I really kinda liked the way the older dodges looked. But the new tall headlights with that grill just looks messed up.

I should start be agreeing that I'm a long time Ford fan like most of you and I'm on my 3rd pickup truck and my '00 F250 has been through the wars with hard towing and 4wd miles. Only problem to date were some cheap vacuum hoses. NBD.

But this thread is about the Megacabs, and I've actually driven one so let me offer a couple of thoughts.

1) This cab is big, for full size adults in front or rear, including seat recline as others have mentioned. As mentioned before most Crew cabs sold are the short bed config. But while the Ford SD series is almost 6'8" the Dodge cargo box is only 6'3" like all other Ram shortbeds. (small details that I care about in my biz)
2) The cab has great stowage lockers on the floor behind the rear seats. Sort of neat to keep my essential gear from looking like clutter.
3) The seats fold forward completely to make a sizeable flat bed 'inside' the cab. Way cool, time for Ford and Chevy to get up to speed.
4) The mirrors. This is Dodge's best little design trick as they rotate to turn from standard config to towing config in seconds. Both positions let you use the regular and the convex mirror. What took someone so long to come up with this idea?

And speaking of ideas that were overdue, I'm waiting for any of the big three to mimic the Honda Ridgeline cargo trunk. Another great idea and having seen one personally it was far bigger than I expected.

Now let's be clear, I'm not buying a Honda "truck", not a chance. And I'm not likely to buy a Dodge either but a fair review of this trucks features will teach the other players where the new high water mark is.

Thanks (sorry for the length)

Ford has already done this in the '05-'06 SD trucks. The rear seats in the Crew Cab fold up and out of the way. Then a metal tray folds out from under the seats. I like the idea of the metal tray, because it has a better chance of keeping the carpet clean. It also is a truly FLAT surface across the width of the interior.
