ok i did research...so its possible the previous owner modified the torc converter to pull his trailer more efficiently.....

so what should be my rpm range normally and what should it be with a stall converter?

normally you shouldnt revv more than about 2000-2500 rpm running around town... a stall converter just raises the rpm the engine runs. you should have good power starting at 1200-1500 and pulling through about 3000-3500 rpm... if you slam on the gas from a stop it shouldnt revv more than 3-400 rpm before it sets you back... if it does revv more than that id swap in a stock converter. some race converters have a 5000 rpm stall... most performance converters run around 2200-3000 rpm, my maverick is getting a 1700 rpm stall but its a small light car thats getting a 300-350 horse small block 347 stroker

so if it revs around 2000 at 30 mph, and if i slam on the gas from a stop and it doesnt rev more then 3400 then thats not the problem?

nah it shouldnt revv to more than 1200 from a stop without accelerating if you slam on it... if it revvs to 3000 then youve got a stall

have you ever driven a newer ford truck? hit the gas slowly and watch the tach, it revvs a good 400 rpm- up to about 1100-1200 before it even moves... i rented one one time back in 2001, i went back to the rental company because i thought there was something wrong with it, but they said thats the way it was supposed to be, so i took their word for it and drove it. thats what a stall converter does

no this 94 is the newest i have driven. my personal preference is around 1979 or so. '79 was a good year for ford...
I miss my old trucks, i had a 76, a 78, and a 79. best trucks i ever had.

I also have a 1977 chevy c60 dumptruck...think runs like a champ. Better then this new fiberglass crap they have out. I used to have a 1976 ford f700. man that this kicked some *** when it came to torc....i think it had a 390? i dont remember mabye it was a modified clevland 400.... wasnt that bad on gas.

Right now my 77 c60 weighs 12,500 lbs and running off a 350 5-2 speed i get better milage then this 460! i get probably get about 7 or 8 mpg empty city and 11 highway and 5 and 9 loaded to the gills

if the p.o. had the tranny rebuilt and put a "shift kit" in that will change the rpms the transmission shifts at and how hard it engages gears... all kinds of modifications it could have had that make it feel like its got more power than it has, and make it suck gas worse than anything

78 was the last year for the round, or first year for the square- depending on trim level

it shifts a little slow, but i assumed thats just how the truck shifs because of the trans.
