Mileage

Know it's a little out of this forum, but my 1976 Mercury
Grand Marquis with 80,000 original miles gets 11.5 in town
and 14-15 on the highway at 70mph. It has 2.75 gears
and weighs 4825 lbs with me in it and full fluids.

I drive the same way... and i dont care, im having fun. I get about 8-9 mpg with my 460 F-250 2wd with 3" magna-flow exhuast being the only mod. I still get the same mpg pulling a inclosed 18' irailer loaded with ATVs, full gear, and gas.

Hey... I've got a '78 Marquis... 104,000 miles. Been driving it since I was 16... it had 37,000 on it then!

I've ranged from 4.8 mpg to 17.9. I normally get 8-9 around town (Pittsburgh is hilly, all gas & brakes) and 14-15 on the highway.

But that time I got 4.8 sure was fun!

Oh, and mine was 4880 on the scales.

My 97 F250HD seems to get just over 10 in town; 4.10s, 5-speed, 4wd, supercab and mostly winter use so far.

My 86 F350 crew cab DRW with 3.55 gears and 116K on it gets 10 mpg empty and around 7.5 mpg towing a 30' 5th wheel. Mileage varies depending on wind direction and speed when towing. Like most, I didn't buy it for economy but to tow the trailer.

Help!

I just got a 1994 F250, XLT extended cab, automatic with overdrive, full bed, 1 ton suspension, 460 ci.
my city miles are maybe 4 or 5 mpg....is this normal? Iv owned many f250's before but all of them 351's. I knew my mpg would be low but this is ridiculous! Is there somthing wrong? It runs pretty smooth so i dont think it needs a tune up. Tires look good, sounds pretty smmoth all around. but 4 mpg in the city? with NO load?

any advice? I LOVE this truck. power everything....But i cant afford 4mpg i need at least 10mpg

Something is wrong, My 1984 F250 Supercab, Superduty with C-6m 4.10 rear gears and a carbed 460 and I get 7.5 city and if an EFI motor won't do better than that something is wrong.

I'd agree. These motors guzzle, but not that bad. I'd check your timing and maybe do a tune-up for starters. Replace your air filter.

According to my truck, your city mileage is almost half what it should be.

Damn, mine isn't even that bad towing the 5th wheel in a headwind. It actually got down to 6.5 on that trip, the Chevy powered motorhomes got 3-4.

My old 77 F150 460 w/ 3.55 gears, welded diffs, 44" Hawgs, heavy engine mods over 500+hp, auto trans would normally not get far enough from home to give a damn about the gas milage. It was an off-road truck but street legal. I could hunt for a day and need to fell up the tank again to go look for dogs at night and never get more than 15 miles from home. The only trip a took with it was to the beach each year for beach week. I had about a 25 gallon tank and the beach is 200 miles away. I would leave the farm with a full tank. Stop at the 1/3 mark and refill. Stop at the 2/3 mark and refill. Get to the beach and fill up before I could go cruising on beach road.

75 gallons for 200 miles is 2.6 mpg on the highway. I never measured it towing or in town for good reason, I didn't do any of that.
