I second that Kwik. Especially with the erratic speedo. IF HE DID NOT have the erratic speedo I would be leaning toward the tranny, as those were my symptoms awhile back, but my speedo worked.
Thanks for all the good information folks. I replaced the rear diff. VSS and the ABS light went off and the speedo is working fine. Hope those of you with hub problems can get them resolved. That sounds expensive.
Hi Folks, This is my 1st post so be gentle. LOL
I have a 2000 4x4 with 103,000 mi.Auto Trans. Yesterday several things went bonkers at the same time.
1. The ABS light is on
2. the speedo doesn't work below 30 mph
3. the overdrive "off" light on the shift lever, blinks
Would this be the VSS mentioned in this post??
Thanks, I've been lurking since I joined last week and now I've got this problem. Think it is related so you guys have something to show your expertise?

yeah, it's really easy. It's just on the top of the rear diff, 1 10mm bolt holds it in place. Unplug, unbolt, install new one, plug it in. Thats it! they are about $20 bucks at the dealer.
You guys were right on with the VSS. The only little problems I had were, that the bolt was 3/8" not 10mm and it was directly under the rear axle torsion bar so I had to move it out of the way. The dealer hit me for $30 but hey, thanks to you guys it was a cheap and easy fix!

Yeah that got me as well, don't know if the paint on it made it a 3/8" or not but thought it was a little strange not being metric

The differential cover bolts on the rear Sterling 10.5 and front Dana 60 aren't really metric either, 9/16 and 1/2. The one hex bolt on the Dana is 5/16 allen. Go figure.......
