Question about VIN

Is there anywhere I can plug a VIN number in to get the exact details on a truck before I buy it??

I'm looking at a '99 Super Duty but the dealer is 450 miles away, I want to be absolutely sure it has everything I want before I drive all that way!

The dealer is a used car place, not a Ford dealer so they dont know squat about the questions I'm asking.

I need to know the trim level (XL, XLT, LARIAT) etc.

And there is also CarFax. I tested the above link on my vehicles and it was accurate.

Yeah, that is carfax, but it doesnt show trim level and transmission, etc...

I am hoping Ford has something somewhere that will list all of the exact details about the truck given the VIN...

Ok, I see what you mean. Like a VIN break down of what each digit stands for. Right? If so, I think I've seen that somewhere. I'll look. I'm sure somebody will chime in.

If you have the VIN # you can take that to your local Ford dealer and their computer will have that information. Might even get lucky and drum up a few service visits if the other owner ever had it serviced at a dealership. When they put used Fords on the lot that are "certified" they actually produce what looks like an original window sticker for the vehicle that they just pulled from the computer with the VIN#.
