Gauges

Currently I'm restoring my 74 pickup, and am finding it difficult to get my gauges to read correctly all the time. Therefore, I'm looking to find the best set of after market gauges or a trick to getting my stock gauges to work correctly. If anyone can help me with this, I'd greatly appreciate the direction. I've currently been looking at the Stewart Warner Gauges but don't know if they're made in the US. Let me know if you can help me. Thanks

I know the stock oil pressure gauge is very unreliable, and the temp gauge isn't to good either. You can get some mechanical gauges like many others have in a triple gauge cluster to go under the dash with a oil pressure gauge, temp gauge, and battery volt gauge or what ever else you would want. The fuel gauge is farly acurate, but the sending unit is known to mess up and can be very time consuming to fix if it isn't just the wiring.

There's a voltage regulator (more like a blinker setup) on the circuit board (if it can be called that) on the back of the gauge cluster.

If that thing is not working right, or sticking, or whatever, the gauges will either be all over the place, very high, or not working at all

Others here will chime in on how to fix it soon, I'm sure...

Most of the time the OEM gages can be fixed by cleaning ALL of the connections and protecting them with dielectric grease. There are many threads here with directions on how to do that.
