Mine recently went out on my 78 f150 4x4. I checked the voltage at the sending unit harness, didn't get anything on the meter until I cleaned the harness plugs and the ground itself. And then I checked the sending unit itself and had intermittant readins on it. (I had the tank pulled and took out the sending unit.) I don't know much about electric, but I figured from everyones posts that the reading should be strong there. If I was doing it again, I would start at the sending unit and work my way up through the harnesses and connections with a multimeter. I was lucky, I only have one tank, the wiring is pretty easy as most is dissconnected. After starting up front, working my way back, I ended up replacing my sending unit. Not as a big a deal as I thought it would be. In the electrical forum there should be some posts within the last two weeks and one of the replies has a diagram in it, maybe look there. Look for my nickname as the author. I am just a beginner though, maybe someone could help you better. Hope this helps you somehow, good luck, Blair
I would suggest that you start with the wiring diagrams for your truck. The dual tank setup is a little complicated. You can get wiring diagrams on the CDROM OEM Ford manuals on sale at the [link: motorhaven.autoanything.com|Online Store].
One thing you can figure is that your problem is in some common portion of the wiring. It is not beyond the tank selector valve. It is in the tank selector valve forward.
