Fuel Guage Problems
I am having trouble getting my gas guage to work. I put a new 38 gallon tank in the truck about 6 months ago, and have been having problems ever since. I had to extend the float to accommodate the larger tank, but I get an intermediate reading on the gas guage.
I have been chasing wires, and I am having no luck. I am trying to avoid taking the tank out again. When I put a light tester on the one wire that goes to the tank, it is blinking like a turn signal. Is this right? The other wire coming off of the tank is a ground wire. Where does the reading come from? Is the pulsing of power normal on the one wire? Is there a relay somewhere that may need to be replaced?
Please, if you have had a similar problem, let me know what you did to fix it. I am getting ready to drive my crew cab cross country, and I need the guage to work! Any input would be appreciated.
(My truck had a tank behind the seat, and I removed it, and took off the fuel selector unit. There was one wire on there that I just disconnected).

Take it out and bend it DOWN towards the bottom of the tank.
Right now the float can't get high enoung to raise the reading.
The pulsing is good and normal.
It originates from the instrument cluster volatge reualtor that is located on the back of the cluster.
It should show a steady pulse.
