I've just started reading this forum and I am very impressed by the support given here.
I have a 95,at,2wd, duely, crew cab f350, 150k. The previous owner used Rotella T 15/40 and so do I. Are there any benefits in switching to Amsoil with these many miles. I have heard that you should not to switch to synth if you have been using Oil based from the start.
Also, when I bought the truck, the owner told me that thr tranny had been replaced with the upgrade since the original tranny in these trucks could not handle the PSD. Does anybody know what the upgrade is? and what tranny comes original in these trucks?
Changing oil brands or from standard to synthetic is not a problem. I run the Rotella Synthetic 5w40 in mine now, used to run regular Rotella or Delo. Amsoil is a good oil, doubt you'll be unhappy with it. As for the tranny, it's an E4OD. I'm not sure about what upgrade he was talking about, there have been many tranny upgrades over the years. Hope it helps.
Yes, the E40D is a Ford transmission. It replaced the C-6 if memory serves me correctly. There are several aftermarket builders of extremely tough E4OD transmissions like Monsterbox (Factory Tech), BTS, ATS, etc. There are also several upgrades like the Sonnax Sure-Cure or Transgo Tugger Kit that will improve shifting and lower tranny temps. I also suggest a large plate-style tranny cooler in place of the stock one if it still resides under the hood. Enjoy the truck, and welcome to FTE! You'll find answers to just about anything here. There are some very knowledgeable people on this site and all are willing to help. I've learned more here than I have anywhere else.
