Which automatic is in a 99 F-350 4x4 PS?

Which automatic trans is it?
The truck was used to plow snow.
The Trans was rebuilt at a Ford dealer at 60K 2 years ago.
Was this a "problem" trans? Were the common problems identified and corrected?

Thanks!

The E4OD and 4R100 (yours is the 4R100) do not have a great reputation for strength or longevity. However if you take care of it, it will last in my opinion. I recommend installing a Sonnax valve and tricumulator springs, or better yet the Transgo Tugger kit and a large plate style tranny cooler. Also install a trans temp gauge and keep the temps below 200. Have the tranny serviced at regular intervals and make sure the proper fluid is used. I have over 204k on my tranny and it's original. Hope it helps.

I have an 02 with that trans in in. I destroyed mine at 38k. Its not made to take the power these engine can make. I put in a Precision Industries T/C and a factory tech valve body. So far she seems pretty solid. The only other solution is to splurge and buy a completely worked H/D trans like Brian's or monster in the box. Either one of these and your looking at over $3000 without labor. Absolutely put in the trans cooler, heat is the enemy.

Generally speaking anything that says "Banks" on it is expensive. Sometimes I think your paying more for the name then the product

Yeah, I haven't seen one of the Banks TC's in action yet, but from the price you can pay a $100 more and get one from someone that's been making them forever and know that you're getting a top notch part.

Max1775 - Im confused by your post. Sorry. Is that an endorsement for or against the BANK's unit? If against - who's the mfg'r thats made them forever for $100 more? Precision Industries? That Stallion unit - "sounds" pretty damn buff from their website.

Whats the Banks cost and what does that Stallion Unit cost btw ...?

I will let you know how the Banks converter works. I should get my mule back tomorrow and it will have the Banks converter and the new Sonnex kit in it. I am stock except for the Hypertech tuner and gages. I run it on the max setting all the time unless I am towing. My old converter got toasted (the paint was burning off). The trans shop went through the tranny (it was completely upgraded last year) so I am anxious to see the difference with the new billit converter and the complete valve kit.

The Banks unit runs about $950, you can get TCI, Suncoast, Precision, Factory Tech (best bang for the busk IMO), ATS, etc. starting around $1050. They will all be good converters with billet covers, etc. I'm sure the Banks is a good product and I'm sure it is tough. I've never seen them put their name on anything sub-par, but I simply prefer a company that's been building TC's for a while and has a proven track record.

No, they will not run hotter, actually they will run a little cooler compared to the stock E4OD.
