switching to amsoil

are there any amsoil users out there and if so how long have you been using this oil?
Thanks
I have used mobil one shynthetic products for many years and am now thinking of switching to amsoil.

Well, keep in mind that not all of Amsoils oils are API certified.

I'm sticking with Mobile 1.

Been using amsoil for many years, first in gasers, now in both PSD's. I use their 15w-40 diesel oil in everything I own.

Like TruckDaddy was saying, you should be aware that the Amsoil 15W40 diesel oil is not API CI-4+ certified, which is what Ford recommends. So theoretically Ford could deny warranty coverage if you had engine trouble. I'm not saying they will, or that you shouldn't use Amsoil, just want you to be aware.

Another item you should know about is that the high pressure oil system that is used to fire the injectors in your engine is extremely hard on oil and it shears down the viscosity quickly. That is why most of the guys here recommend changing your oil at 5000 miles no matter what brand it is unless you are going to do oil sample testing to make sure they oil is not shearing down too much. So if you were planning on running Amsoil for extended lenghts of time in between oil changes that isn't really the best idea.

I would recommend you scroll on down a little farther on the main forum page to the 6.0L forum. Amsoil has been talked about in there many different times. Sometimes it ends up turning into shouting matches, but there is a lot of good information in there too.

Amsoil is the best oil made period. Amsoil has three (3) oils for diesels and all 3 are API certified. Mobil 1 is good but they changed their formulation, it now has lower shear values to comply with CARB.

According to API Amsoil has 5 API diesel rated oils, but only 1 of them is rated for use in the 6.0L and that is PCO which is a 15W-40 synthetic blend...

Huh, that's new to me. Last I knew they didn't have any API CI-4+ rated oil, but it looks like the PCO is. I wonder if that just happened in August?

I didn't know that, thanks. The delvac mobil one is very expensive and that is the reason for contemplating the switch. That plus the fact they make syhntetic transmission fluids i can use in my torqshift tranny in my 07 6.0. Just would simplify everything if i could buy everything from one supplier. I use mobil one products in differentials grease fittings every where right now except in my 6.0. Well the 6.0 does have delvac mobil one in it

I wouldn't be to quick to switch the trans oil over to Amsoil either. Motorcraft is the only one out there that makes a transmission fluid that meets the Mercon SP spec. Amsoil says that it can be used, but it does not meet the spec, so once again you are taking a chance that the dealer may void your warranty.

Amsoil even goes so far as to say that their ATF can be used in Mercon V and Mercon SP applications. I'm pretty sure I remember reading in here that those two specs are so different that it's pretty much impossible for one fluid to meet both of them. Mark Kovalsky would probably know more about that then I do though. I would suggest sending him a PM.

Again, I have no problem with people using it, I just think they need to be informed.

I have been running AMSOIL for over ten years without an oil related failure and have been running 10,000 mile extended drains

Thanks for the info. And the reason i started this thread was cuz i wanted to be informed. There is so much stuff out there it is hard to discern what is correct. However, if one goes to the wrench people that use the products with your question you get abswers straight from the horses mouth so to speak and those answers mean something.
Mark K huh? I will do so.

I didn't know that. Already memebers are giving me tons of reasons for staying with M1. Thanks

Thats interesting. I work for CARB and i was not aware of this. Of course CARB covers alot of territory and i am presently working on fugitive emissions from off highway motorcycles. Wonder who in our organization is into lubricating oils?

thanks. I plan on staying with the 7500 mile change interval on my 6.0. Cheap insurance. I have discarded vehicles out there i sold to friends with over 330,000 miles on the original engines on M1. My 1998 Escort is pushing 200k and still uses no oil with 38 mpg highway, also M1. I still own and drive the Escort.
