I'm due for a tranny flush and am looking to go with Amsoil for my 4R100. It feels like it has been slipping a little. I don't think there is a problem with the tranny because the same symptoms cleared up after my last flush. At least I hope. It's been about 30K miles, but I do some heavy towing probably 40% of the time. The truck just turned 70K. I know the manual says not to use dual usage fluid, but Amsoil claims that with there fluid there is not a problem. I've heard a few opinions, most of them good about using this fluid. The tranny doesn't seem to slip under full throttle, but cruising around town it feels like it slips a little and sometimes doesn't want to shift gears like normal. I'd rather spend $300-350 for the synthetic fluid and do it myself than give Ford my money anymore and have them do the flush for the same price. Any advice? And has anybody switched over to Amsoil?

i think amsoil make some syn fluid called "torque shift" which is not dual usage... as for your tranny... i hope you have a BIG cooler added to your system and a real tranny temp gauge..!
i haven't switched over yet, but i was on the amsoil site last night pricing out that syn fluid..!
JJfiveoh, you don't want that Amsoil synthetic ATF as it is dual rated. Get the Torque-Shift as Jonnhy8 said. It is only a couple dollars more per 2.5 gallons but is meant for high torque applications: https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atd.aspx
I just purchased it last week, but have not had a chance to put it in. I was told in another thread about this stuff and my Amsoil rep confirmed. I will be putting the Sonnax kit in with the Torque shift and the TruCool cooler in the next couple weeks and will let you know. It should only run about $200. I also purchased a little extra so I can change my transfer case out at the same time.
Strokin uses the Torq-Shift and loves it. I'm suprised he hasn't been on here yet recommending the switch. I've heard good things about it, but have yet to hear any negatives other than the cost.

My local Ford garage says Ford does NOT recommend synthetic trans. fluid in the 4R100. They did a flush for me and added just regular Mercon fluid.Who is trying to stroke who here?

Has anyone ask BTS what would be the best? I sure would trust them over a dealer.
I have a question for everyone. If u keep your tranny fluid cool enough all the time(aux cooler) and clean enough(external bypass filter) why should one spend twice(or more) the price for syn over dino? The only advantage of syn from what i understand is it's slightly superior thermal conductivity properties. I put in dino so far for about$7/gallon and the Amsoil Syn is $35/gal or so.

I just got through ordering the Torque Drive. I know it's pricey, but it seems the OEM fluid that Ford uses just doesn't last, at least IMO. I've got 30K on mine and it's gotten terrible over the last 2 weeks. The torque drive is on back order so I'll probably end up doing half a fluid change just to get me by. Maybe not everybody needs to use it, but it's very hot down here, I don't drive easy and I haul around 13K pounds at least 40% of the time. The torque drive is supposed to last twice as long. Maybe I'm just being **** about it, but it's piece of mind I guess.
