I realize that this is most likely going to depend on a bunch of factors (budget, installation etc) but what sort of kit would people recommend if I wanted to get:
1) DVD head unit (preferably touch screen, or fold out screen)
2) 2 x TFT monitors to go in headrests (for back seat passengers)
How much would I be roughly looking at to get something like that installed in a 2000 F150 Lariat? I plan on upgrading speakers too, but will be doing that myself.
i just bought the Kenwood ddx6017 Double Din for my 05 350 lariot. It fits perfect in the spot you dont have much plasitc trim. So far so good. It plays Dvds/Cd/Mp3/Wav/ and has a bunch of other features. It does not come with navigation but it can be added. I got a deal on it for 800 but they list for about 1200. Before i got that one i had the Eclipse Avx2404, Not a big fan, harder to use and the resolution wasnt that great. Id say go with the kenwood or evevn Alpine or Pioneer, those are the top right now for screens
I bought my AVIC-N1 on ebay brand new for $1300. I had never done a mobile video install but have installed quite a few cd players so I figured I'd give it a shot. It was so easy I wouldn't even bother paying to get it installed if you want to save some money. I can't comment on the secondary screens as I don't have any (yet). One of these days I'm going to install a 7" screen in my pass. side visor, looks like they're roughly a few hundred dollars depending on size and quality.
If you want a touch screen then the Apline models will please you. They have all the extra jacks for upgrades to be added on. They will work while driving and have both kinds Slide out or seperate screens.
I have an Alpine at the moment, and would like to stick with Alpine for various reasons. Do like the look of the IVA-D300/D310 units, although I don't know if this is compatible with the existing 6 disc changer in the truck (although I also don't know if it's an in-dash changer, or seperate changer......... see my other thread).
Might have to save up for the IVA-D300 and accidentally damage the existing stereo..........
