I have a 1985 b2 and i wana adjust the timing but where is the hold down bolt for the distributor and how do you get to it because i think i found it but its next to impossible to get to
it is on the passenger side of the distributor and i believe it is a 13mm. If you use a deep well socket you will be able to get it, I personally use a wrench but that is me.
i usually use a 1/4 drive socket with a universal arm and extension to turn around the distributor cap to reach it.... since this is about timing i have a question... setting the idle to 850 on a manual.. when do you do this... with the spout connector out and time to 10 degrees... or time to 10 degrees put the spout back in and then set the idle??
interesting, my son has an 88 and is having the same problems, its really frustrating. I have replaced all the battery cables and the battery as well as had the alternator checked.. All appear okay. even replaced the cable from the relay to the starter, which is almost impossible to get to by the way. I put it on a battery charger and can get it to crank, but it will die and act like the battery is dead within 5 or 6 minutes. Runs fine then just stops... any ideas. I wish it would be as simple as this threads problem

Reason: wrong thread
even if its the wrong thread its cool i think.. questions are always good i spose...what do you mean like its dead... as in when you turn the key there is no clicking and turning of the fuel pumps at all?? if so check the ignitio relay on the fender and make sure the cables are all grounded fully.. ive forgotten to tighten down the grounds and turn the key andnothing.. if it runs then shuts offf .. you will want to get a cheap code scanner or a really expensive one if you are into that.. like 35 at advance or whatever is around you... then get the codes and see what it says..i used to get a lot of pip signal intermittent.. i ended up replacing ig coil cap rotor .. stator which is inside the distributor... fuel pressure relay switch on the fender wall... fuel filter checked all the wiring for the fuel pumps and got a new ignition relay cuz i wrenchined my old one o clean off the fender.. but i hipe nay of that help,. the scanner seems to help wquite a bit when diagnosing .. cuz you get the problem code look it up and then go to your chiltons manual and look up all the parts that are in that part of the system and check them all... hope it helps

I would monitor the voltage across the battery during the period when it's running. It sure sounds as though the alternator is bad, notwithstanding the test.
