I installed MSD Billet Distributor a couple of days ago in my 78 F250 with 400 engine and found out that my timing marks are way off so I just set the timing for max rpm at idle for now. Would that be a good inital timing setting to run until I can get the timing marks lined up right? Also, what's the recommened max ignition timing and at what RPM for stock compression engine with MSD 6 box, Blaster 2F coil, headers, and dual 3" exhaust?

 

Run up a hill in high gear and see if it pings. If it does, set the timing back till it goes away. If the starter spins the engine ok when it's warm, this will probably be a good setting for max power.

 

Thanks for the reply, I don't hear any pining at WOT going up the hill... I just hope that my exhaust isn't masking any pinging that may be present.
