Well, I finally did it. Yesterday I put day insurance on my truck for the first time in about 5 years. When I was driving into the parking lot I downshifted and then I hear, "WH-BAM". I stopped right away and cut the engine. A bunch of my friends saw me and they run up to me with peices of my driveshaft. I pushed it into a parking stall. It lunch I creeped over to the shop in 4x4 so that I could work on it. I took me a long time and all it took was some liquid wrench and a 8mm box-end wrench. I was able to drive home in 4x4 and now I need a new driveshaft.
which rear diveshaft did ya have? the original factory cv style or an upgraded one that takes Ujoints? I have the upgradaded one with ujoints and cuz i let a ujoint go bad I had mine break at the ear on the flange that holds the ujoint. Luckily i had another one for parts i got off ebay.
That sucks, mine did the same thing over a year ago. I had a custom built driveshaft and it cost me $600. But it has a lifetime warranty that the guy that made it gave to me. You can check out ebay for new ones, or get one custom made.
Well, now I've found a nother driveshaft, but the want to charge me $175CDN for it. Thats about $140 I think. does that sound reasonable. I think that it might be cheaper to go to the wreckers and pull a d-shaft myself.
I had my drive shaft rebuilt with Spicer parts for 150. Dont feel bad I broke 1 drive shaft 4 times and the other 2 times s i know what you are going through. Also don't even think about putting that CV twig back on there, that is the one I broke 4 times, it wont hold up too well. Put a U-Joint style on there. just remember you are going to have to change out the flange on the back of the tranny before you will be able bolt it on.
Thats a double cardan driveshaft and thats a good thing. It helps with the angle of the drive shaft in relation to the tailshaft of your tranny and the yoke on your differential
best way and easiest way i've found is to use the big C clampy style looking tool found in a ball joint tool removal kit..helps to press the old joint out and new ones in.
