18k mod?
#2
Don't know.... put 18k ohms worth of resistors in... instead of the 10k.
From what I have gathered from reading on this forum, it will give you less fuel pressure increase than the 10k mod. If you are wanting an increase, you need to put a smaller resistor in... I think... search for 5k mod, clamp mod, etc.

There are versions of the 18k that are adjustable. blackclouddiesel.com sells a 18k mod that uses a variable resister to adjust the ICP. They claim up to 65hp-120ft pds with it set to max. comes with a throttle activation setup to shut off when the throttle is lifted to elimanate any surging at idle and still work with the cruise on.

18K mod is the name for the commercial ICP mod (10K). It is sold by Blackclouddiesel.com. It's an adjustable 10K mod and if you get the IVS switch, then it only comes on when you depress the accelerator pedal and cures the rough idle when turned up. It's a 3 position switch with off, low, and high, and an adjustable dial to set the resistance level where you want it. Some people with just the 10K mod only have problems with a rough idle, and can't adjust it at all without removing the resistor and replacing it with a different one.
More expensive than just a resistor, but more adjustable and driveable for some folks.

I just put a reed switch on the Idle Validation Circuit to activate the 10k mod..which eliminates the surging at idle. Cost me a whole 99 cents more and about two minutes of work. I can still shut it off w/a toggle... don't have a problem w/ cruise control... although I usually cut off the 10k on long highway runs. JMO

Nice try.
Have you seen the new version of the 18K that blackcloud has? It looks like they did away with the toggle switch and added a throttle control that works with the cruise. Everything is now in a nice little box, pretty nice setup. $85 sounds like alot for somthing you can make cheaper, but its not bad considering all you have to do is hook it up.

This type of mod is referring to jumping a resistor across two of the three wires for the injector pressure sensor on the driver side head. This sends a signal to the computer of a 'lower' pressure which in turn the computers ups the fuel pressure and dumps more fuel into the engine. I tested out a 10K ohm resistor and a 5.6K ohm resistor, I love the latter, I have the circuit running with a toggle, sure makes the truck lop at idle and when I switch it on under acceleration, even with my Diablo 3 position flip chip, I feel the extra grunt kick in.

No Bigdaddy, I haven't looked at the blackcloud unit yet..
Now that you have peaked my interest, will have to look at it. $85 doesn't sound too bad...
I think my grand total for the 10k mod I put in was $8.67.... I had to buy wire, toggle switches, wire taps and a reed switch along w/resistors.
The only thing that I might mention to Ktahelton is that you may want to try this cheaper version to see what you think before buying the built box.

I have the 5.6 and 10K mod stacked with my Diablo Flip Chip, works awesome! Your programmer obvisously works in reprogramming the computer (much like the flip chip) except you can specify parameters. So, what ever program your computer is running on, applying the IPC mod works independent of all that. Even in the performance setting of my Diablo, when I turn the 5.6K mod on, I definately notice it. Hope this helps a little.
