Welcome to

The 'common' name for this mod is the 10K mod. The 14.7K uses a 14.7K resistor instead of a 10K resistor. Basically, this is a "Poor Man's" chip.

This mod (ICP Resistance Mod) uses a resistor to trick the computer into seeing a low pressure reading in the HPOP (high pressure oil pump) when firing the fuel injectors. A higher K resistor, within the limits of your individual vehicle, causes more fuel to be injected into the combustion chamber.

Do a search for '10K mod' and 'ICP Resistance Mod Results' for some reading material.

Before doing this mod, you want to ensure your fuel pressure at the fuel pressure regulator is within the normal (40 - 80 psi) range. This reading is taken at idle and will fluctuate greatly because we have a mechanical fuel pump. Add the lowest and highest reading; divide by 2 and that should be close to your actual fuel pressure reading. If it's low, you can 'adjust' the pressure with a BB (from a BB gun, not a bearing). Do a search for 'FPR Shim' and you'll see what I mean.

I've had my truck on a chasis dynomometer with different resistors (4.7K - 25.0K) in place. Each truck will respond differently and 'bigger' is not always better.

can you use a tire preasure tool to get this reading.

Since this thread has been started, I have a question. I have read that the resistor combo(whatever it be) goes inline in the which wire? I have read that it goes between two different wires, I have read that it just goes inline in one wire. conflicting reports. Could someone clear up for me as to which wires to put the resistors on? Thanks.

It can be in line with the blue/green wire, or you can loop it between the gray/red wire and the blue/green wire. Either way works. Think about it like this.........leave the crappy brown wire alone.

has anyone tried installed a 10-20k potentiometer and run it in the cab so it can be adjusted while driving?

Yes. Most folks do exactly this. It'll most likely ruin the tire pressure gauge, but you'll only need to take two readings:

1) Check your initial pressure (should be 40 - 80 PSI at idle)

2) If pressure is low, add BB (FPR Shim) and recheck.

On my '97, I placed a connection for the resistors inline in the blue wire with red tracer. The insulation was faded gray, but unwrapping the tape revealed blue insulation.

For some light reading, go here to see what the different resistors did for my HP and torque.

This has been discussed, in one form or another, by several people. For everyday use, it would probably work fine. The only problem is, it really isn't accurately repeatable.

With a specific resistor, I know my truck will achieve a specific HP and torque gain. Click here for some light reading.

the brown falcon had told me that the potentiometer wont work while driving, because the computer sets itself at whatever ohms the truck is started at. not changed while driving.

Yes a pot will work and will not set a CEL.
