Let me see, drove a Diesel Tank in Vietnam in 1968,and that was before the advent of JiffyLube. Try that on for seasoning. Do you use Mobil 1 oil? Have a bypass filter? Don't be pointing a finger for lack of maintainance, water in fuel light has never come on, and as long as I fuel up at reliable gas stations I'm not too concerned about draining the fuel filter every week. Not to mentoin the fact, I believe my truck has one more filter than a gasser.
I don't believe the dealer ever told me not to worry about cool downs, besides Ford doesn't recommend it either. I think common sense is key here, we all don't tow 85,000 lb trailers on a daily basis. With all the TurboCharged vehicles running around these days you would think there would be more failures?
Last but not least, I wasn't born yesterday, never blew up an engine, or had a trany failure, I'm all too aware of the IMPORTANCE of Preventative Maintainance.

For a truck running around town and a lot of short trips, a gas engine is a much better choice. As said before, diesels are best for work and longer trips.
And for not checking your fuel filter, can't say I'd tell people that I don't take care of my truck and don't do regular maintenance. Yea you might not have a problem now, but if you keep this up, it'll come back to bite you in the wallet, one way or the other.
My feelings cannot be hurt by fordfast and I do not need to lighten up! If someone else asks about bodyside moldings, it will need to be in an appropriate thread to get my input. Meanwhile, I am content in having two of the best looking pickups around -- period!!! This thread has gone off-topic and should return. .... and nationalism/patriotism/giving a damn about our economy and the future for our children is not "politicks" It is just plain good sense!!! I WISH it was COMMON sense, but from what our neighbors buy, we know it is not and our economy is suffering because of it.
I have a 2003 CC 250 4x4 LB w/5.4L in it. It's used around town and to work on bad weather (snow) days. 99% of the time I drive a 4-cyl car to work. Can't beat 32MPG. Do not tow or haul naything. I just like the truck. Maybe when it's out of warranty, I will lift it a few inches and get a bigger tire (295 or 305) when the stock ones wear out. The only thing I added to it is an ACCESS cover and a Rhino Liner. I do need an air-horn for a certain part of town. LOL.
The main reason for buying it was because my dad (who passed away in '98) always wanted a FORD pickup but never had the $$$ for one. He was a diehard Ford man. It HAD to a be a FORD. No Chevy or Dodge POS. FORGET ABOUT Jap trucks. But he had other priorities like feeding the family.
Danko-
My wife is from Detroit...I've always been a buy American, support our economy kinda guy, and I thought I was a hardliner...I hadn't seen nuthin 'till I met her!!!
She's a cute polite little thing but she will turn herself purple in the face arguing with someone about the benefits, nay, the need, to buy USA. She's seen her town go downhill with everything leaving Detroit. I've tried and tried to get a job with one of the big 3 (I'm a mech Eng) but never heard a word from them...it it sad times. I see the jap metal parked in my neighbors' driveways and it makes me sad. Then there are the two glorious Fords in our driveway!
whuups...back on topic...
I don't tow, don't really haul anything, mostly drive 15 miles to work everyday, and like to take road trips. I've always wanted a black 4x4 crew cab diesel Ford. So I bought one. Planning on keeping it forever. In the coming years I am planning on having a good sized family, restoring classic muscle cars, building bikes, maybe getting a boat one day. I like going camping and fishing off the beaten trail.
So was the diesel overkill for me NOW? YES! Without a doubt.
Will it be overkill for me in the future? Possibly, but I'll probably end up working it more the older I get, and...I will ALWAYS enjoy driving it!!! <<<That's the important thing!!!
